Shot in the dark here, you consider yourself socially moderate and fiscally conservative?FEOS wrote:
I'm an older man who is in the military, but grew up (and have lived) all over. Yes, my family is mostly conservative, but my wife and her family are mostly liberal. Over the years, I've grown more liberal and she's grown more conservative.Macbeth wrote:
Maybe, considering your history from the content of your post you seem like an older man who has had some military experience and is most likely from the south. Considering the period you grew up in, area, and life choices you probably grew up in a more conservative setting and the vast majority of people you met were socially moderate.FEOS wrote:
If you change your characterization to "fiscally conservative and socially moderate" I think you've got something there.
The far-right social conservatives have a place...but it shouldn't be front and center of the Republican party.
Now I'm a 18 year old male who lived his entire life in North New Jersey so the majority of people I met where socially liberal. Different periods and settings.
Regardless, everyone hates being told they are going to hell, are living a immoral lifestyle, killed their children (abortion), or are following a bullshit religion.
But the one thing I found relative among everyone, was that they all hated high taxes and supporting other people.
I'd say a large part of your liberalism is due to your age. There are far more young liberals than older liberals. I think it has something to do with life experience, tbh.
Regardless, the people the Republican party has somewhat alienated due to catering to the evangelical minority are those fiscally conservative, socially moderate people who occupy the right-of-center demographic that is the majority of this nation.

The more Obama wrecks the country, the more people will get mad. Which i only hope will result in a V for Vendetta style ending.
We need people with power, like Rush and Glenn Beck to help.
You see president-elects stand up there and rant on about hope and change, but when was the last time they ran with the "Personal freedom" line?

I wouldn't label any follower of any politocl group as sheep, it's just people vote based on what matters to them or what they like. Some people vote based on "feelings" and if you think about it humans decide who we want to have sex with based on "feelings."
Obama will wreck the country in some way, some people will never be happy no matter what happens. You could look at any President and say he wrecked something.
Maybe I'm nitpicking.

Before any conservative party can get votes, we need to redefine the goals of the party.
Gay-hatin, science-fearin, bible-thumpin, book-burnin needs to be removed from the ideology, and instead focus on a state governed by personal responsibility and mutual respect. We need to become the party of intelligence, stop fear mongering, and return to the well reasoned arguments that formed the party in the first place. Parties need to adapt to survive, and it's time to adapt, the ultra right ideology is killing the party, and we have to cut them loose (maybe they'll even learn something).
There are millions of people like me who want a strong army, access to firearms, a system that rewards personal responsibility, and taxes that go toward government projects, not incompetence, but we are also scientists, sometimes atheists/agnostics, and can name several gay friends. The republican party will only get my vote when they abandon the backwards social policy they have been preaching for far too long
Until that happens, the right wing is dead.
1) You never bitched about the government until Obama got into office. That, coupled with your incessant racist posts, completely kills any credibility you possibly could have had.Mitch wrote:

I wonder if it really would matter though, the ultra right would rather crucify themselves than vote democrat, so the repubs could probably court the "lesser of two evils" vote out of most of them.Poseidon wrote:

I have a lot of conservative aspects in my political swayings. I'm pro death penalty, pro gun rights, pro military, etc....but I just can't stand the backwards, anti-progressive policies that the neo-cons and extreme Christians have inserted into the right. It's horrifying. Abraham Lincoln would be ashamed.
I kind of wish Bloomberg would run in 2012 or 2016. Although I think his socially liberal ideas wouldn't go over so well with the republican party.
I'm telling you man. Bloomberg in 2012. So what if he'll be 71?S.Lythberg wrote:

While it is true a sheep is a matter of perspective - a sheep who doesn't look at fact and history is a sheep who believed somehow this time obamas tired liberal tactics would work.Macbeth wrote:

Ah, that's true as well...though he's not exactly swayed too easily. You'll have to ask cowami, he's got more experience under Bloomberg's rule than I do (see: none).S.Lythberg wrote:

It's not "pandering", it's reaching out to people to progress as a party and as a nation. Something you obviously are against, because you like a few others here, have your political blinders on so tight that they're keeping the blood from flowing to your brain.LividBovine wrote:

Based on some of your posts, you are not a true conservative. You are still trying to figure out what you are, and that is good.Macbeth wrote:

How very neo-con of you though, trying to stop people from posting in a thread on an open forum. Nice! Very nice.
And you and the rest of the self proclaimed "true" conservatives are nothing of the sort. Stop making a fool out of yourself.
