Re-vote? already?
Surely this poll should be delayed until some of the effects of Obama's policies are actually noticed.

I personally don't want to see his policies take effect. Almost every one involves more government control of something.

Lets go back to the great depression. What saved us? Big government spending. Sure its not pretty but I think thats what Obamas trying to do right now -- fix the problem before it becomes a disaster.
Bottomline though, "anything goes" strict free market capitalism is what got us into this mess. White collar criminals were allowed to get away with murder because no one (the government) was preventing them from starting all this bullshit.
Thats the way I look at it anyway... as far as issues go I admit I'm not as informed on this one as I ought to be... so tell me why I'm wrong.

I know what you're saying. I think some of the source of this crisis was a lack of regulation. Allowing speculation to go crazy on certain commodities like oil and letting mortgage derivatives become yet another Enron-style disaster were the result of serous gaps in regulation. On the other hand, I think some regulations (like the CRA) helped create this crisis as well.Spearhead wrote:

The main problem I see with Obama's approach is increasing the money supply to such a massive degree. Inflation is gonna be hell very soon.
I've honestly gotten to the point where I wouldn't mind it if we just nationalized some of these banks, because that would still be better than taking this massive corporate welfare approach.
Actually the extent of the Stimulus is no where near that of the New Deal. But this isn't going to be a new Great Depression, first off the Government is actually doing shit instead of sitting on their asses and not going all out because of ideological reasons.Spearhead wrote:

Secondly only housing has really gone kaput, banking and retail took a big hit but they are still surviving, although barely. During the depression, banking, retail, housing, farming and manufacturing all failed, and they did so before there was any government intervention.
Are there problems with the stimulus? Of course. But the thing is that the government needs to act as fast as possible, as the sooner we start a decent recovery operation, the less damage will be done.
America is gona be one sad country 3 1/2 years from now...
People blame everything on Bush but they forgot that alot of liberals are in power in high positions making alot of decisions he can't always change.

I vote Rosie O'donnel with Micheal Moore as VP. This would be the Democraps dream ticket.
That big government spending was associated with a war. It wasn't the New Deal that got us out of the Great Depression. If it hadn't been for WW2, it would have actually extended the Great Depression.Spearhead wrote:

And much of that big government spending for WW2 was paid back (lend-lease).

Closely regulated capitalism is the least bad option.
Fuck Israel
In certain ways, yes. Although I still believe we should disband the Fed Reserve.Dilbert_X wrote:

FALSE. WWII saved us from the depression. In fact, there is still debate over whether the big gov. spending before WWII did anything to stimulate the economy.Spearhead wrote:

But WW2 = big government spending.Deadmonkiefart wrote:

Big government spending pulled us out of the Great Depression. There's really no debate about that. The debate is whether or not it was solely the result of spending more on the military (to prepare for WW2) or if the previous spending on social programs and public works projects also played a part in the recovery.
I tend to believe that both parts are relevant, but war spending was probably a bigger contributor than the stuff before it.
I would probably stay in bed and avoid the long lines if there was a revote.
