Michael, 50, will end his exile as a live performer with a residency at the London arena, similar to that of Prince who spent 21 nights there in 2007.
The dates of the shows are as yet unknown but Michael has exchanged contracts with the venue, according to Sky News.
There will only be tickets available for a small number of shows initially and then more dates will be added if demand is as great as expected.
The residency is tipped to be the only live shows the King of Pop is planning so tickets are expected to sell out in record time and if he follows in Prince's footsteps at the 18,000 capacity O2 he could play to an estimated half a million fans. Some experts are speculating that so many ticket sales could generate up to £50 million.
