House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised Saturday that a $100 million infusion from the federal stimulus package would finally close the gap for rebuilding Doyle Drive, a project marked by a half-century of feuds over funding.

The revamped stretch will cost just over $1 billion. Roughly $90 million will be saved by accelerating the construction pace by a year.

Someone worked it out to be 190,000 dollars a foot
the road will cost around a billion total...

Will illegal aliens get jobs to help build this road or legal Americans?  And does anyone else think that 190,000.00 a square foot sounds a little high?
and is this good use of the stimulus bill to jump start the economy?

The cost of widening the M1, Britain's biggest road-building project, is spiralling out of control with each mile costing more than £21m.
The National Audit Office was called on last night to investigate why the price of the project has risen from £3.7bn to £5.1bn. The latest estimate makes the 240-mile project bigger than the annual economies of a third of the world's nations

1.2miles costs 1billion dollars. Are they paving the road to the bridge with actual gold?

Yeah, shame there aren't laborers who would work harder for cheaper in California

Not only do we not have a monopoly on the corruption trade in business or politics, but we are pikers compared to some of the Latin American nations.  Hey, we even learned at the foot of the Europeans.  Let us not pretend that anyone is clean as fresh fallen snow, ok?

thousands for sure, what with the equipment, land prep, labor, materials, planning, utility relocation, buy out of residents, environmental impact study, re-zoning, palm greasing...

keep in mind that highway roads must be able to support a serious pounding 24-7 in horrific weather, a single freeze-thaw cycle can obliterate improperly poured concrete

In all, I'd say the $190,000 a foot (not square foot, lengthwise) figure sounds about right.

Thats insane!

Amongst other infrastructure projects, we may get a 1600km (1000 mile) bicycle track for NZD50 million (USD 25 million)...

I love how people automatically jump to the worst possible conclusion without looking beyond the title.
