I have a set of these too.  Not too shabby for 30 bucs.  Decent sound and the mic works fine.

The logitech headset they are talking about is a torture chamber and  the worst piece of junk on the planet. The way it stays over you ears is by applying pressure to your ears, not evenly dividing  the weight  on the top of your head. I got one on ebay for 10 bucks and let me tell you I should have bought a double shot of jager instead. The earpads get slippery after playing and it feels so lame sliding off  your ears.  I replaced it with a Plantronics .audio 110 and its the best headset on the planet for gaming for <30$. Plantronics is well know in the telecommunications  industry as a leading manufacturer of quality equipment.
Having the microphone attched to the headset is a big plus for me....
I also looked at Icemat Siberea's, Medusa 5.1's and some high end cans...Audio-Technica ATH-A900. All of which have a strong following but in the end I gave in to comfort as I will never wear an uncomfortable headset again! Hope this helps

If I had that amount of money to spend, I would go with a headset that has 5.1 surround sound.

I just picked up a simple $10 Labtec desktop mic since I switch between playing with my already nice headphones and my speakers. Mic works just fine, and is actually has a surprisingly narrow range of pickup so as to not get a lot of excess speaker/roommate sound when I use it.

i mainly use my .40 audio analog for teamspeak, voices come from the headset while bullet sounds and blah come from the speakers : ) with XFI!!!

I just use the mic headset I got with a preorder for Guild Wars. The actual earphones go over my ears, and I use a big, fat Sony MDR-V900 for sound instead. When the mic headset wears out, I'll just go to the one I got with my order of BF2.

I've got a pair of Sennheiser 515's that I don't feel like replacing any time soon, but I'm looking for a high quality desktop microphone (I've got an enormous desk with plenty of room so it doesn't bother me :p)

Anyone have any really good suggestions for non-headphone mounted microphones?
