Scout stunning is fucking annoying, and seems imbalanced as hell. Insta-donk, insta boom boom...
It wouldn't bother me if it wasn't for the fact that Valve will take about 18 months to integrate the other class-features that serve to counter the bat. Mm, tasty imbalance.

Can you move top-speed while batting the ball? How's the trajectory/speed/stun length?
Trajectory seems pretty point+click to be honest, I only used it in short-mid range and it didn't seem to have any deviation. Speed of it is FAST, anything up to mid-range and you would struggle to dodge it. Stun length I'd say is a good second at least, importantly long enough for the scout to empty both bullets of his uber-shotgun into your face at point-blank range (assuming the ball is used at short-mid range, which I assume it was designed for considering the Scout's overall short-range playstyle).DefCon-17 wrote:

The drink works quite well and I think personally it is a nice introduction for pub-play; helps Scouts get through sticky spots where before they would be completely useless in the face of a chokepoint or locked-down PL/Dustbowl map. You switch to a third-person perspective when using it so you hardly become an invincible bullet-dodging player of AWESOME DEATH for 3-5 seconds... instead it works as it's supposed to: it gets you past the sentry nest, or around the troublesome Heavy/Medic combo, etc.
The shotgun I think is great in the way that it fundamentally encourages short-range accuracy/reflex play. It has a real sense of skill in a way compared to the spammy-scattergun, in that you have to get up close and make your two rounds count. The damage is decent and doesn't strike me as being crazily-excessive, and the downsides (such as reload time) compensate for the immediate ownage of the weapon when it is pointed in your face.

I don't like the sound of (playing against) that bat...Uzique wrote:

I can't wait to airblast one straight back and make Scout flambé.
Haha yeah, much fun!
But that's my point about the game's inherent state of unbalanced shittiness... the Pyro's can counter the Scout. Both have had their little update-presents. The game is becoming increasingly more unfair for different classes in different scenarios, and all the while more and more complex for Valve to actually 'balance'- what with all the new game mechanics and weapons. It's really starting to suck now at a point where a few classes have their new weapons and their unique tricks, and the rest are left trying to counter and overcome these with weapons and solo/team functions that have existed since Beta release.
I mean, as an example... the Scout drink that is an Engineer-destroyer. How many months is it going to be before the Engineer gets their chance to even the playing field? Surely if the game is becoming more and more about kit-choice and adapting your capabilities according to your weapons/gear loadout, surely then Engineers deserve the choice of a gun/counter that can kill those pesky evading-Scouts (at the expense of another ability, of course, as the upgrades tend to operate).
It would be so much better if they released all the updates at once, at least to make things completely even and fair-choice. Of course it makes little to no sense from a business perspective as far as marketing-hype and prolonging product-lifespan goes... but I'm just sick of the 'Next Class Update Coming Soon!' carrot being dangled in front of the community, with the hype-machine spewing out shit up until the inevitable breakdown of said machine- when then everyone realises the problems and annoyances that the new stuff brings to the game.
Hope you follow my rambling, it's 6am and I haven't slept .

I kind of want all the unlocks to be released at once too, but at the same time...I don't.
It's kinda nice to have that excitement of new unlocks every 500 years, but as you said, it makes the whole balance thing rather strange.
I think it is good that players have to change their set-up to counter another set-up though.

I only got stunned about 3 times in my 3 hours of play. Most Scouts just miss, miss, miss.
Only got 3 achievments
Also there are 2 great new Scout quotes (one of them is just amazing) but I won't spoil them.
OMG and there's more
"I dare you, Ragequit!"

Great concept, yes... flawed integration when 'players' being able to change their set-up and adapt their offense/defense applies to only 3-4 classes.DefCon-17 wrote:

Spidery, why so /fail on the achievements front?

Well most of them seem to be based around using the unlocks. Another bunch are huge grinds. Others require other Scouts to be using unlocks, and the rest are all semi-rare events.
Also.
I can't stop laughing from these new voice clips.
Spoiler (highlight to read):
I am OWNING YOU you fat, bald bastard!

I don't know how they did it but they somehow made worse grind achievements, that's actually impressive. I mean double jumping 2,000 times, that's a real achievement. The sandman plays out not how I thought it would (taunt like sandvich) so it seems actually useful. I still don't know why valve make you do all this boring crap no one cares about or finds fun just to unlock some new gear which is fun. If all the achievements were one-off in a round things I wouldn't have any complaints.
I agree. A lot of these ones are bad achievements IMO. Don't like them. The Pyro and Heavy ones were better.
So far I have 13.
Thoughts on the update:
LOVE the new shotgun. Triple jump rocks, as does pinning down a target with the first shot and then finishing them off on the 2nd. The improvements/additions to arena are also nice.
LOVE the new voice clips. I've kind of said that already though. I think you have to get a revenge kill to trigger a lot of them.
cry no video though of course, but never mind. Can't wait to get Sandman and the drink. I want Sandman more than the drink though.

This sucks servers are still to busy for me .
/plugs in Graphics card.
Uzi, how is it that the drink is engy destroying? Sure it can distract the sentries but you can't shoot while using it. The distraction thing is useful but only if you can get people on the server to listen to you. Unless my game is just bugged.
Sandman is hilarious to use, if annoying to be on the receiving end. Will be good once the scout thing calms down a bit but for now getting stunned by 5 scouts in a row as a heavy at long range is crap. Thing is, in most situations I've seen guys go for the stun and miss completely. Funny bouncing the ball back as pyro. Love using it on medics/ubers/heavies etc. Though using it on a heavy, running up, unloading the FaN and then getting punched to death because the heavy didn't quite die in time is reaaaaaally lame.
Force-a-nature = no point to the scattergun anymore. If you are any good with the FaN you don't need the scattergun for anything really.
Oh and while Egypt is fun (at times) it is also bugged. Motherfucker. Sometimes the doors don't open for Blu team which leaves both teams doing... well not much.
