I have food, coffee, energy drink, 1.5L peach ice tea etc. next to my rig so I think that's not so bad... made me want more coffee tbh

I'm way too clumsy to play with tech with beverages lying around

I've built a few rigs, done lots of changes and never taken any electrostatic precautions, never had to RMA a thing.

that depends on the carpet... wool is NO NO but some other materials hardly have issues with static electricity...

It's not a myth, the chance of frying something is just very low. If you're dealing with a $300 GPU that you can RMA the risk is acceptable. If you're dealing with a multi billion space probe you need to take more precautions.

Can't remember, but it's a name the makers of meet the parents would have been proud of. I loled.

If you use common sence its very unlikely you zap the tech to death... there is always risk of that but it just isn't like 'OOOoo its gonna die if u build it over carpet etc.'

Unless using MSI components...
I always build / upgrade on wooden surface, just being overly cautious.
I'm not to the extend of using a static wrist band though.

That was the first thing I noticed too.

Oh and on the topic of static: It's one of those things where you build a million PCs taking no precautions what-so-ever and have no problems, then on the million-and-one'th you fry everything, or you can it can happen on the first one you build.

The problem with static is it's a silent killer - you never now when it will or won't strike.

That's why I take the 30seconds effort it requires to protect my hardware with a wrist-strap whenever I go anywhere near anything even remotely 'inside' my PC.
