You can't cut back much more than that with that criteria.

you could drop the GPU for something low end I guess. Programming doesn't even even really need a gui
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

I was just thinking about the 24" res, if he wanted videos and stuff... but yeah, that and the case are the 2 things to change.

And get a PSU of an at least somewhat-respectable brand.

I actually have two Akasa PSUs in the bin right now.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

What about just a simple 8800 from nVidia? Those seem to go for cheap all the time ... that should drive the 24" without any real issues, right?

i don't know how expensive the Q6600s are compared to the Q8200 from UK e-tailers, but personally i'd go with the Q6600.  it'll run a little hotter but it has a lot more OC headroom.

Hey, I used to use Tiger Direct as a price comparison with New Egg on a lot of things. My last build had half the parts from TD and the other from NE.
