To download: http://www.osirisdevelopment.com/Batter … nload.html

I just downloaded it, but my battery is close to dying at the moment (irony?), so I don't want to install it quite yet. But it looks cool and interesting. Those of us not running Atom processors and getting more exact running times should appreciate this quite a bit.

That thing does nothing more than display some more info. It won't give you any more battery time or anything. The best way to improve your battery runtime is to run it down to 0%, then let it charge to 100%, and repeat a couple of times.

You see, the Li-Ion batteries in laptops depend a lot on protection and measuring circuitry, which needs calibrating to work. The first thing you should do when you get a new battery-powered device, is to run it until it thinks it's empty, and then charge it fully a couple of times. 0% is not always 0%.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Freezer, it isn't improving your battery life. It is giving you a reliable (hopefully) count down of your battery life. So instead of giving you just percentages of the remaining life, this will give you minutes and hours. I am about to install it on my EEE, I just got back to my apartment so if my battery starts to go, I have AC power.

Since when does Windows not do that?

That's because you are running an Atom processor, correct?

Freezer, Windows does not do that with every computer. I know my Pentium M in my EEE 900 doesn't do it. Maybe the Core Cuo in my Acer does it, but it never leaves the desk ...

Eh? And you get a count down of the hours and minutes? Weird as hell. I don't get that in my 900 and I have the most up to date BIOS. Windows XP Home like you, too, right?

Dell laptops come with a battery meter that gives you hours and minutes left, not sure what Vista gives.

It has nothing to do with CPU. It has to do with what your battery is telling your computers SMBus.

Well then if that's the case, I have a bone to pick with someone for giving me the wrong info. Thanks, Freeze.

Panzer, how is it that you get it, when I have the exact same operating system???
