Our dollar is not going to be worth 1 cent if the government keeps printing so much more money. This chart is by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis and it shows the amount of printed money in circulation. I can't believe that more people are not outraged by the amount of money the government is printing! With this second "stimulus package" that line is going to more then double because China and other counties are not going to buy our treasury bills and more money is going to be printed to pay for the pork bill.

Just wait to be paying this for a loaf of bread...

Well, that's ONE way to lower the real value of our outstanding debts.

"oh, we owe you $1000 dollars?  fine.. fine.. let's inflate the dollar so it's worth only 25% of what is was worth when we signed the loan, NOW.. here's here's your $1000 dollars"

Considering how heavily the Chinese have invested in our debt, this could potentially wreck their economy.

But.. it's all rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, until we make serious progress towards redeveloping our national infrastructure and manufacturing base.

Our highways, telecommunications, electrical grid, and such = infrastructure in need of serious attention.  And, our manufacturing base was sold to China in the last 30 years - we need to fix that.

First the Chinese have to find a way to sell off all of that US Debt they invested in.  Any way they cut it, they're taking a loss on that now.

And.. Russia is lecturing us about currency issues?!  oh, that's priceless..  That's like Afghanistan lecturing us on The Drug Trade, or Saudi Arabia lecturing us on religious tolerance.

Yes I'm sure China knows that, and when they do sell it will be 10x's worse for us.

The US currently runs a huge trade deficit. The main reason is that the dollar is over valued, making imports cheap. If this helps reduce the value of the dollar and so help American exporters and encourage Americans to buy American products (greatly helping US maufacturing during a recession) what's so bad about it?

Next 10 years will be interesting. Not the end of the world, but.. interesting.
I think China is the one taking the "10x worse" in the ass right now, not us.

I think China built too much, too fast, and on credit.  Their infrastructure is too fragile, and they built with so little regard for sustainability.

They were trying to pull the same routine Japan used, but 25 years late.
(build cheap junk en masse, sell cheap crap to the West to make some money.. then start moving into the quality markets once you have the manufacturing experience to do so).
China is stuck at "build cheap junk", and the world economy is doing a faceplant before China & Russia can move into the quality manufacturing positions that Japan & Germany own.
[edit: and Japan was just copying the rebuilding paradigm that Germany used to get itself out of the rubble of WW-2]

The USA has all the natural resources it needs to survive - we're just too busy (& lazy) burning everyone else's resources to bother developing ours. To be clear: It's enough to survive by any reasonable standard, but not at the stupid-excessive levels we're currently at.

As an example, the state of Montana alone has;
- Enough coal reserves to power our transportation infrastructure for the next 50-100 years, using the Fischer-Tropsch 'coal-to-diesel' process
- Enough farmland to provide the grain and vegetable necessary to feed 300 million people a year (those numbers are weak though)
- Enough cattle ranching to provide for the US market
- Enough Geothermal energy (Yellowstone Caldera) to provide power for our static electrical grid (static= wall outlets, not transportation)
...and that's not tapping into any of the other 49 states yet.

NOW, the major question everyone should be asking is "How hard do we have to kick the American politicians (and then population) in the ass to convince them to put down the Big Mac and Starbucks Coffee, get off their fat lazy ass, and redevelop our national infrastructure?!".

Make no mistake China was surviving thousands of years before the United States. They most certainly have everything they need to survive.

The Chinese are used to a lower standard of living. Their average ppp is around 7k annually, they are quite familiar with providing for themselves and living off the land. It's the western countries that are going to have a world of shock coming their way. Especially when they realize just how much they are indebted to the Chinese.

Really hard, considering we keep offering up trillion dollar stimulus welfare packages that encourage failure.

Shit, the Chinese have been through all kinds of suffering for centuries. They don't know what freedom is or like, how do you expect them to fight for it. Chinese culture cares more about money than anything else.

If you see a Chinese becoming a doctor, it is not because he wants to help people, its because it brings connections to medical personell, so if something goes wrong in your family, you can call up someone.

The ideal Chinese extended family would have a lawyer, doctor, businessman and politician. Imagine how corrupt society will be. Too bad everyone is trying to be one of those, then they realise their ass is stuck making some Nikes for the white devil.

Just remember; after the trillions in bailout, and when and if the economy stabilizes, then hyper-inflation  has to kick into to correct the printing of the money you speak of.

Then the economy will have recover from the recovery.

I suppose we could always join the EU if our currency fell apart and adapt the Euro as our currency.  It would be equally as depressing as it would be hilarious, but lately, Europe seems to be making better financial decisions.

Of course, some of their economies aren't doing so well....

Well more or less the globalization of every ones economy is going to break down into isolation groups.. All Debt is going to want to be collected and we're going to break into a world war.. The monetary system is going to be absolute and society is going to be rebuilt..

But then again December 21st 2012 is coming pretty quickly..

I'm beginning to believe more and more these days that money doesn't actually exist in any realistic sense anymore. Just numbers on a screen until you turn up at the bank one day to ask to look at it.

It really doesn't, we really might be at the dawn of a new era... Lands used to be controlled by force, then it moved to control by religion, then control by money.. What do you think the next form of control will be?

Ok so the amount of printed money in circulation is doubled, so soon a dollar will be worth half, You would think?
