Dogs in the workplace

Here in California we are, well, one of the most liberial places in the United States. The complex that I work in has several businesses that allow their employees to bring their dogs to work.

With all the allergies and lawsuit happy people in California is it 1) legal to bring pets to work; and 2) right?

I lived in Colorado for awhile and everyone has a dog... I think it's fine as long as the dog is calm and doesn't jump on the person... or bark incessantly....

My dad used to bring his dog to school when he was in High School. Not a small dog, either... a German Shepherd. School used to be much more laid back back then.

I say it should be allowed as long as nobody has allergies and the owner is responsible for anything it does.

Anyway if the business owner wants to then go ahead, just make sure your workers don't have allergies.

Dogs are allowed if the business lets them. The best place to work at in the United States, Google, allows pets at work.

I like the idea of allowing it. Now, there also has to be a polite responsibility to remove the dog if someone has a phobia/allergy. As with most things, it's a great idea until unreasonable people get involved.

It's not illegal, and if a business wants to allow the employees to bring their dogs, then fine. However, the owner should be aware that if that dog causes problems then they are going to be held liable for whatever happens.

Dogs, as with all animals, are creatures of instinct and training. Dogs can be trained fairly easily, but their instinct is only suppressed by training. Don't screw with their instinctual responses, and you'll be fine.

Dogs will actually react more to a person than anything else. If a person is fearful, the dog will sense it and react accordingly. If a person reacts weakly around a dog, the dog can take control and be more dominant. When around dogs you have to be in control.

Seems like allowing dogs into the workplace is something that's likely to end up causing problems.

Injury to workers through bites, disease or tripping over it
Potential to damage expensve stuff
increased cleaning costs
distracted workers doing less work
causing friction between workers due to alergies/noise/smell/workers who thinks it's only fair that they can bring their python or rhino or whatever into the workplace too.

lol im not saying dogs should be allowed in the workplace, im just saying his claim is kinda retarded, dogs are predictable, his arguement is not a reason to keep dogs from the workplace.

The reasons dogs should be kept out of the workplace are pretty blatant. What use would a dog have in a workplace? Dogs are also unhygienic in terms of allergies and stuff. Then they would also just get in the way, slowing productivity.

what the hell, you're comparing a normal dog to one that has rabies? do you know what that condition does? the dog goes insane, as does the person he bites. It's like comparing a psychopath to a normal person.

I know dogs, I've grown up with dogs and kept dogs all throughout my life. If I know my dog doesn't bite, he doesn't bite. No matter what stranger he meets, he does not bite. He wouldn't even bite if you throw shit at him. The only way you can get my dog to bite you is if you were to try and kill him, stab him with a knife or something.

I loves mah dog and wish I could have him in the workplace :-)

Probably not a good idea in any workplace contingent on health/safety like a hospital or grocery store, or any business with a reliance on in-the-flesh customer service like a bank.
