dont ask, its a gaming forum.

With 60+ pages of mostly drivel about Palestine the choas and escalating tensions in Europe go unnoticed. What gives?

What kind of sheep care more about Israel extracting their pound of flesh than the potential of war and frostbite in Europe?

Whenever something happens in Europe I barely notice any local changes and when the Russian's are involved it seems very much like muscle flexing and an attempt to get back the old Soviet feel of power.

Warfare and stuff going on in the ME is generally more interesting to me as well. If something happening in Europe was having an affect on me, I'd pay it more attention.

it's a dick move at best, especially to shut the gas supply while it's winter.

Ukraine, however, hasn't paid it's bills on time. And this isn't the first time they did that. It's sad that that also affects large parts of eastern europe.

it also shows how much we depend on Russia for alot of our oil/gas supply and sorts. All the more reason for Europe to get a bit more unity, decreasing dependancy and increasing it's capability to actually protest to a move like this.

that's cause you're as far away from russia as you could be. Eastern Europe got a hard hit, and Germany/France and more western europe states lost a part of their gas supplies.

it's highly unlikely this would ignite a war. But it will definately worsen the relations the EU and Russia have.

Europeans have been bickering like this since the caveman era. What do you expect with a a bunch of countries crammed together all speaking different languages and each more arrogant than the next. Give it time and it'll sought itself out.

Meh. No (significant) impact on the UK gas market.

May well have huge negative effects for Russia and Ukraine though. Their arguing with each other makes me laugh.

We have our own gas and oil in Norway so no sweat for us ...

Russia mainly delievers to Germany, Poland and other former east block members, not sure their pipelines even goes into western part of Germany ...

Indeed. I believe in the UK we get all our excess gas (above what we produce domestically) from you guys.

We get our Russian gas directly, so no problems here. Awful to read about East-European countries declaring a state of emergency due to Gazprom shutting the pipeline via Ukraine without considering at all what the consequences might be. Typical Russian move though. Worst part is that the former Eastern block has suffered some seriously cold weeks recently. Up here in the North however, it's been quite warm.. Weird.

Was is Slovakia that had to fire up a reactor deemed unfit for use by the EU because of of this?

We should build more nuclear power (5th reactor on its way at the moment), there's enough uranium here to keep the country going for a good time.

I don't think a war will emerge from this, at the moment it's pretty far fetched to say the least.

That's good to hear. Hang in there.

The gas should be flowing again for all I know?
Edit: Correction, the gas stops in the Ukraine and Russia is accusing the Ukraine for not delivering gas to Europe.

Well they were saying it should be delivered this week but you never know when former USSR republics are in conflict.

Oh btw where do you get your gas Donnie?

Yeah, you never know.. However, I cant imagine this escalating into a conflict. They should work their shit out amongst themselves. Having European countries suffer from their disagreements is just asshattery.

Our gas, lots of it comes from Russia, but we get it directly through our East border.

We still have reserves here, but they will not last forever though.
Even if ~80% of our energy comes from nuclear power,we still need that gas from Russia.
The winter is going to be cold for many people in Europe.

I think Ukraine is doing it cos its the only way to retaliate against Russia. Finland should be getting some fuel from Norway right?

Ukraine is pissed and generally refusing to pay for the gas at any price other then last years, Russia wants to charge the normal price for this year(which is over double that of last year).

it's the usual shit that's being brought out each time there's elections approaching in ukraine - it's all politics, always was. both sides (russia and ukraine) are trying to play their gas cards to gain influence. yes, sadly, eu are being held hostages in this, which is... um... unfortunate.
if we look at the formal side of this, gazprom' position is 100% justified - there's no point whatsoever in selling gas to ukraine at half price. if they don't want russian gas they are free go find it some place else or start using some alternative fuel. but either way ukraine are still under contractual obligations to tranzit russian gas to eu which, aparrently, they haven't been doing recently. as ukraine denies they've been stealing gas from the pipelines gazprom requested thrazit process observed by eu to prove that it's all ukraine' fault. after ukraine denied that, gazprom shut the valve. that, minus some minor details you can easily find, is about it - make conclusions yourself.
if you open your mind too much your brain will fall out.
