What's with this forum's phobia of people using 'fancy' or 'shiny' or 'big' words? What does it say about us as a society where people are demeaned for using high level vocabulary? Too often I see certain members of this forum attacked for nothing other than using the vocabulary of a well-educated adult.

Tl;dr (Sad thing is, those three sentences are too long for some people): Stop getting pissed off because somebody made you pull up dictionary.com

There is nothing wrong with using "shiny" words but some people use them to an extent that they lose meaning and just sound annoying. If you can simply put your point across then do it.

Its because it makes you sound like a douche bag. Most the time the people who try the hardest to sound smart are the ones who aren't.
Its annoying to hear some fucking kid use his new vocab word constantly because he thinks it impressive.

The point of language is to communicate, to get an idea across. Using bigger words then is necessary only makes that harder.
