But cheaper then life in prison. At least it should be...FatherTed wrote:

Which city do you live in? Illinois has some rather restrictive gun laws, but some suburbs of chicago take it to extremes... (http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/illinois.pdf has a pretty good summary of IL law)S.Lythberg wrote:
I have to review the local gun laws to see what I can and cant have, and how I should store it, but a recent influx of immigrants to the area has noticeably increased the crime rate, so now is certainly a good time to buy one.imortal wrote:
Save your pennies, buy one as soon as you get out of school. Less than $500 to get a really decent pistol or shotgun.S.Lythberg wrote:

of course, living so close to chicago means I may be stuck with a nerf gun... street thugs around here have trunks full of SMG's, and law abiding citizens are stuck with pea shooters, gg lawmakers.

At least we do not ever have to worry about these guys being 'repeat offenders' any more. They can now serve the community as fertilizer, for all I care.Dilbert_X wrote:
I'd rather see them do hard labour, and like I said, doesn't seem to help the crime rate.
Give it back to the Mexicans I reckon, or the Israelis are going to need somewhere to live soon.

130 people in 35 years, I wonder how many more there are, or how many have been executed but innocent.Average number of years between being sentenced to death and exoneration: 9.5 years
Obviously you just don't care... hopefully you're next.
I am a firm believer in the Death Penalty. I am also a firm supporter of Project Innocence and other groups like it. You will find the average time between a death sentence and the possibility of being proved innocent skewed by older cases. I hope and believe that current DNA technology is a great boon both in providing unassailable proof for the guilty and in clearing the innocent.DrunkFace wrote:

I am a harsh and unforgiving person, but I want to also be a fair and just one.
DNA evidence can be planted or tampered with just the same as any other, and as its considered 'unassailable' thats far more dangerous.I hope and believe that current DNA technology is a great boon both in providing unassailable proof for the guilty and in clearing the innocent.
Fuck Israel
Hard to plant DNA evidence without a sample. And if you are that skeptical of the Criminal Justice system, then you might as well head to your mountain hideout with your tin foil hat.Dilbert_X wrote:

Who are you suggesting are the dirty ones? The cops? The forensic specialists? The DNA anylists? The district attorney? The judge? Or someone else framing someone for the crime?
Matching with DNA is unassailable. Or, nearly so. Granted, you may have a identical twin, but other than that... It is more accurate than blood typing (which only narrows the field, and is really only circumstantial), and is harder to get rid of (as well as easier to leave behind) than fingerprints.
If you find DNA on a body, but do not get an instant match, only to find a match after a couple months on interviews, it seems unlikely that the cops would be able to get a sample to plant. In the case of framing someone, it is always a matter of trying to make the evidence fit, and to account for any possible reason for that DNA to be there.
DNA testing is very accurate assuming that the evidence is colected correctly and the lab tests are done correctly.
Unfortunately people can and will fuck up.

I work in the industry and extract DNA every other day. As Fodder said its accurate, but has to be collected correctly.
Another thing is that DNA must be amplified many times so it can be compared. Very small amounts of DNA can be used to amplify and use as evidence. Unfortunately even a small amount of other human DNA ( not the offenders) can be collected, and therefore provide an incorrect result. Crime scenes arent sterile lab environments, there is so much other Human DNA floating around that there is always an element of doubt when using DNA evidence. Its a very useful tool, but not a magic bullet.

Your home is your castle. If I ever find anyone in it who has broke in, I will do my best to kill them. Under UK law you can't do it with a gun or a weapon as that shows intent. Tho you can beat them to death if you feel threatened with what ever comes to hand. End of the day, robbers know what they are doing and the deserve everything they get. GJ Texas!
2 young guys broke into my parents home in the summer while they slept and took my mums car. Then drove it to a neighbouring farm and tried to rob them. The old farmer slipped out the back door, drove his tractor across the lane blocking them in. Called my dad. I'm not going to say what happened, but the cops weren't called and they won't be doing it any time soon. If it had been left to the police they would have never done any time for it and fines are useless cause they were on benefits. The biggest deterrent isn't the law, its what lays on the other side of the door your thinking of kicking in.
