I misread the title as free music downloading site, or something like that. Never heard of deezer, may give it a whack some day, so to speak.
Nevermind, I decided sticking with downloading is easier.

Last.fm for the win, it's all I need for sampling music before I decide to 'acquire' it .

The way the news is looking "Apple, DRM etc etc." "Protests over DRM" "ISP's cracking down on P2P network and Torrent users" it almost seems like the only way to get free music is illegal, but heres all these sites providing it (streaming, but still wow) legally
FYI Apple are selling DRM-free music nowGodFather wrote:

Dear Pandora Visitor,
We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative.
We believe that you are in United Kingdom (your IP address appears to be XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX). If you believe we have made a mistake, we apologize and ask that you please contact us at [email protected]
If you are a paid subscriber, please contact us at [email protected] and we will issue a pro-rated refund to the credit card you used to sign up. If you have been using Pandora, we will keep a record of your existing stations and bookmarked artists and songs, so that when we are able to launch in your country, they will be waiting for you.
We will be notifying listeners as licensing agreements are established in individual countries. If you would like to be notified by email when Pandora is available in your country, please enter your email address below. The pace of global licensing is hard to predict, but we have the ultimate goal of being able to offer our service everywhere.
We share your disappointment and greatly appreciate your understanding.
Sincerely,
Tim Westergen

Well I know for a fact that sites like Last.fm pay licensing fees and have advertising deals with record-labels in order to offer certain 'sample' streams. Whole-song/entire album streams and downloads are offered normally at the courtesy of the artists themselves... these sites are not a means to pirate and acquire music freely, more a concept of 'entice the consumer to actually buy our CD by letting them listen to the whole thing first'.GodFather wrote:

And yes Kyle, aren't Apple magnificent and kind. After years of the iTunes Store they finally let go of their totalitarian grasp over what we choose to do with a product that we pay for and own by legal right. Hurrah.
