Hi guys!

The time finally has come. My parents are willing to sponsor me a new computer as a combined gift for birthday and christmas.
Problem is I have no clue whatsoever is top notch, worth it and all that

So here are the details:

- I have a 1000 € budget
- It should be somewhat silent
- Don´t need windows, keyboard, mouse or other peripherals

The components should be available in europe of course
The thing should be the best to be available for this money. I want a pretty good gaming machine. The 1000€ are there to be spent

If possible, one build over here would be great:
http://www.alternate.de/html/pcbuilder/ … .html?cn=1

It´s in german, but they do build me the complete thing. Less hassle for me. Feel free to ask me for zeh german woards you do not understant .

While being at it, could you recomment me a good, gaming capable monitor for max 200€? These are excluded from the PC budget, I´ll pay for it myself.

Go wild, thanks in advance and mad karmaz for all contributors!

You can get a Samsung 2233BW for €199.

I'm sure much better configs could come of it, but it at least gives people a scale.

I'm still way under your budget. If you do a lot of number crunching (encoding, compression, encyption, rendering, photoshop, folding, ...) a quad core might be a good upgrade. Get a Q9550 in that case. I picked nvidia over ATi since it has cuda and costs nearly the same as a HD4870 1GB. Also you might want to think about getting multiple HDDs or just more space

If you want more silence you can replace the stock fans with Scythe Slipstream 1200RPM or Nexus fans. Didn't see an option to change fans, so you'll have to do it yourself

No need for the 750 Watt PSU. Running a similar config. And I'm using a 450 watt PSU.

600 Modular PSU would be fine

RAM(2x) 2GB XMS 4-4-4-12€39,49 (€78,98)  - too expensive. 2 sticks > 4 sticks anyhow
MOBO Asus P5E Deluxe X48€189,90    P45 is superior. X48 is too hot and expensive. The added PCIe bandwidth doesn't help when going CF
GPU Asus 4870 512MB€204,90 I'll give you that one. If you're not interested in CUDA and play on standard res it'll do
HDD 750GB Samsung€71,90
PSU 750W Toughpower€124,90    No need for that much power. Can't hurt though
Case P182 (inb4)€139,90
Cooler F7P€17,99         Good enough, but we aren't really on a tight buget so we can get something a little beefier

Wow, thanks so far. karmaz for all of you!

@max:

You picked a motherboard with crossfire and put in a nvidia card? Does that work? What if I want to upgrade with a second card later on, can I do that?
I intended to get a quadcore over a dualcore. I dont do much graphics stuff or folding, but I think quad is more futureproof.

@cheez:

That monitor looks sweet! <3 Samsung, looks like a winner.

Running nvidia cards on crossfire chipsets is no problem. You can't go SLI, but if you intend to buy a second GPU later on, it is usually more economical to just whatever is the newest gen card then instead of getting a second old GPU.

I don't think any games will come out in the useful lifespan of this PC that will really take advantage of quads

With Nehalem out now, no Conroe-based quad is future-proof.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Yeah, I know, but I think quad might come in handy in a few months up to a year.
It was the same with dual core back then. At first, no program or game really used it, but after a few months it was good to have one.

You might be right with the sli thing. i dunno the numbers, but the last time I read something about it, a second card brought around 30%. Is it still this way? Cause then a new card after a year or more does make more sense I guess.

This shit confuses me, there are a bazillion combinations possible...

I'm running 8800GTX + 8800GTS G92 on a Crossfire board with no problems . Of course I can't use them both at the same time in the same game/app, but they work fine independently.

SLI brings around 40 to 80% increase, depending on application and resolution mainly.

hm, in that case it would make sense to buy a second card later on...

only upgradedability

and well.. a quad might not hurt... after all its not that much more expensive but should pay off with new games coming with better quad core support. like Alan Wake for example....

See my signature for a pretty much complete build. Just remove the peripherals you don't need.

hm, even after removing the keyboard and the windows, the alternate build is 200€ above my limit.

So, what do you say about this one:
https://www.abload.de/img/zwischenablage019f7t.jpg
http://www.alternate.de/html/pcbuilder/ … .html?cn=3

A little different from the one presented by max and cheez.

But I´m still kinda unhappy with the graphics solution. Asus has no 775 mainboard with SLi for a similar price. cause I would like to keep the option to upgrade with a second card later on open. So should I get a different mainboard or different GPU?

well if you take off the monitor, the keyboard and the Windows Vista on there, then the build comes in right below €1000 on the one I showed you. Granted, your build just above does have a quad core and 4GB of RAM (at a lower clock speed, though) compared to the 2GB I put on. But mine also has the Sapphire Toxic, which outperforms the Nvidia 260.

Lol, I thought the t200hd was some kind of HDD or something. Silly me. Of course the thing is below 1000 then.

Does the lower clock speed make it performe worse, although there are 4 gigs?
And the Toxic you talk about is this one: http://www.alternate.de/html/pcbuilder/ … 5&cn=3  ?

Cause it´s cheaper, how can it be better then? (I know that sounds a bit retarded, but I thought GPU go that way)

I saw, you meant this one, right:

Actually, I was referring to this one. Up until recently, that card was available to buy, but at the moment it isn't. Guess they completely ran out of stock?

I spoke with one of the people that work at Altenate in Wien and he recommended the Sapphire over the ASUS or Palit cards. The ASUS was naturally more expensive and the Palit cheaper.
