If your looking to teh future then you might as well get the fx60 as long as you have the money, as it is dual core and will kick ass when games support dual core. however if you want ultimate gaming performance right now, get the fx57, which is a single core that is extremely good and will probably give you better performance in games right now than the fx60, hence the fx57 still being more expensive than the fx60.

*edit* actually the fx57 has come down in price quite considerably to just under £600 (decrease of over £100)
so it is now cheaper than the fx60, so maybe go for that one because it will still kick ass for many years to come.

DFI, but DFI require a lot of patience and tweaking

I personally love DFI but it does take a lot of tweaking. If you wanna have a stable mobo with the potential for a good oc, I would suggest you go for Asus.

neither. its just having 2 cpu's into one, it can use 2 proccesing threads instead of one, therefore decreasing lag. go get 4200+ dual core if u have the money
Not for BF2 he shouldn't get one. There is a bug with dual core processors so that every time you play the game you have to set it to only work off of one of them, otherwise you get disconnected from servers all the time. Trust me, I have the 4200 dual core. If it is just for BF2 don't even bother with dual core, it's more of an annoyance than anything. When you boot the game up you have to alt+tab out, ctrl+alt+del, find BF2.exe and set the affinity to CPU 0 every time.
Belated reply.... but... Mind explaining how my dual-core rig is able to play this game then?  Also... the following links are all dual-core users:

Jade456's Rig
Badvock's INSANE Rig *grin*
bob-brainiac's Rig
Skruples' Rig
Maj.Do's Rig

This is only a handful after glancing through 1.5 pages (out of 6) worth of posted rigs.  Unless I am mistaken, none of these people has ever posted a single thread inquiring BF2 not running well on their dual-core systems.

I just setup a AMD 64 X2 3800+ and I am experiencing some of the issues you guys mentioned.  Things like, the video would freeze and the sounds would go in a loop for about 30 seconds., (Seems like more when you are playing...) or Connection issues..

I will first try to set the CPU affinity in Task Mgr and see if things improve.  It doesn't happen all the time and the game never crashes, but it is an annoying thing that happens once or twice a night during 4 hours of playing.

Either way, I pulled down the AMDCPU.EXE for Dual Core systems and I will do some testing over the next few days and reply back here.

I'm also running it on a ASUS A8N32 SLI Deluxe MB.  To the player in Taiwan, I looked up this board out there last week when I was visitng for the New Year and it costed MORE in Taiwan than it did in the states.  I was a bit surprised since the MB's are made out there.  Post the exact model number you are referring to that rund Dual X16 and I can give you a quote or you can look it up yourself on either NewEgg.com or ZipZoomFly.com.

but they will for the future, so buy dual core now is the best if u want to upgrade pc
Buy the time games upgrade to 64 bit, you can pick up a 4800 for less then half of what it cost's now.

Stick with your 3500, all the CPU you need.

2 gig's of RAM and SLI is a good upgrade.

err, whoever it was about the hotfix, if I am not mistaken that is designed to fix windows components and related software, not BF2

Stealth42o: agreed, my 3500+ will do me for a couple more years I think, though it can't quite keep up with my RAM clock of 800MHz(dual channel)

Yes the 3500+ is quite good for games, but it is one of the worst multi-tasking CPU's I've ever owned.

I kinda wanted to know if I would see any benefit in games buying a 4200+ as it's the same clock speed.

If I pay that money for a CPU I want to see improvement everywhere!!

yeah..the dual core amd is an awesome proc.

i have a 3400 amd 64bit athalon
and on my new sli rig i have a 4400 x2

the 4400 was spotted as the best price for performance value by pc shopper this month...

the only thing with bf2 and the dual core is that youll need to set the affinity to just one proc....if you dont youll get wierd disconnects and crashes to your desktop...

but running it on just one proc. i still get no lag...and with the duel 7800 gt oc bf2 runs so nice...

my 3400 isnt much worse in game...but you notice a big difference when you are multitasking...ive never gone above 50% of my proc usage though.....if your looking for an upgrade..the x2 is def worth it in my opinion...especially since most new software will be geared towards duel core proccessors and hyper threading technology

I'm surprised to still hear people getting issues regarding BF2 on dual-core setup.  Yet none of these people who have posted these issues never mentioned if they have installed the processor driver.  My previous post even mentioned several dual-core systems that ran BF2 without any kind of problem.

Before you start saying that you have to set affinity just to play BF2, do me a favor and get that processor driver installed FIRST AND FOREMOST!  Once you have it installed, give it a run, and tell me then and only then if you still have issues.
