Def, what camera Do you have?

And you won't even need MF on the XS/i, the AF engine is smart enough (Although, for me it's had a few instances where it focused on the wrong area.

If/when you get it, can you try to get a picture of the viewfinder, I want to see how Canon laid the 9 Focus points out, the XS has 7 and the layout makes logical sense, but I can't imagine how 9 would look.

Nikon D80. 11 focus points.

Why on earth would you let your camera choose what focus point(s) to focus on?
That's like shooting in Auto.
Honestly!

Aperture priority ftw.

I've only had the thing for 5 days and from the very beginning have been slowly moving away from full auto, I find that at this point, about 30% of the shots I take I pick my own focus points.

How are they arranged? Like I can barely imagine 9, let alone 11!?!

But I agree. Letting the camera select the focus point is stupid. It's not that hard to select the one you want...

Get off full Auto naow, and get into the "Creative Zone"!! (if canon still call the M, Av and Tv part of the dial that )

Umm 9 focus points look something like this on the 450D/XSi (Source: www.dpreview.com):

And this is the D80's 11 points, which is honestly as confusing as fuck:

Depending on the lens being used, the amount of ambient light, the focus point you are selecting and the nature of the subject, manual focus could yield a faster and more accurate result. That being said, Canon's consumer DSLRs aren't *that* good for manual focusing straight out of the box due to the smaller viewfinder (when compared to a full frame camera like the 5D). One would be wise to invest in a better canon focusing screen if they were to take full advantage of manual focusing.

My parents don't know what to get me ever since I started getting older, so nothing's a surprise anymore.

But my girlfriend has given me no clue whatsoever about my gifts from her (Apart from one thing (A watch)), so I'm kinda excited

As long as they don't find out you looked, and if it seemed as obvious as she made it, then I guess it's not so bad. Just act surprised

I would wait and expect not to get it in order to really be suprised if I get it or not be dissapointed if I don't...

But then again.. I mostly really wish for tech, which my parents rarely give

This year it's a samsung 20" T200 on the top of my list

Guess I will find out in 6-7 hours though (merry christmas)...

Yeah, im waiting to see what my mom does, if she hasnt gotten anything, ill be buying a new SD from Newegg (just checked, DAMN theyre fucking DIRT cheap!)

My current cam has a SD Pro (I think) 4GB and that wont work

speaking of my current cam, some of the shots ive gotten with a point and click... none of them have been digitally altered, all taken with a DSC-N2 10MP digital point and click...   the focus on the flower one was a bitch man, I had to try to focus on something else and then walk over and take the pic while it was still focused on the other scene... Man im going to love Manual Focus!

They look good pictures to me, especially the flower. Did you use the Macro function for the flower? You can see the pedal texture which is pretty cool. I do not think my camera (sony DSC-f717) is this detailed.

You should have a focus lock if you just want to use the center one.

Well I mostly do paintball photography, so I'd lose a lot of shots trying to get the right shutter speed to go with the right aperture.

I should learn full manual though..
