Just finished reading Othello. Really enjoyable book although hard for me to understand. Iago is
Although I'm not keen on Shakespeare's works, there is one I would like to see. The Japanese version of Macbeth, Throne of Blood, apparently that's meant to be really good.
It is. Especially the climax. "Cobweb" castle is exactly as you'd want it to be portrayed.M.O.A.B wrote:

Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
Good choices. While I recognize the significance of Shakespeare, I don't exactly spend much time reading his work or even watching the film adaptations. So yes, I'd have to agree that I'm more partial to recent storylines than most of the "classical" ones.M.O.A.B wrote:
I like movies like the Bourne Series because they have good plots, good stories. Shooter is an engaging film as well because it introduces elements of conspiracy and corruption in a compelling way. I like war novels, science-fiction and that's the sort of things I write. I know I'm not the best writer, I don't try to be. I write as best as I can to put my ideas down on paper (well screen), so that hopefully someone will enjoy it. I take influences from people like Orwell, one of the books I'm writing involves a totalitarian government, a fictional military, fictional technology. I know it won't be a masterpiece, I'm not a genius, far from it, but I'm not an idiot either. I know very well that there are a lot of people who enjoy the same genre that I do and hopefully those people would enjoy anything I wrote. I aim to write things people would find entertaining, some won't like it, other will, just the way the world works.
I think one of the biggest problems with a lot of critiques in art forms of all kinds is pretention. So many people glorify the works of the past that they often discount the talent of the present.
You see it all the time with film. For example, if you actually go back and watch Diehard, and then you watch The Bourne Ultimatum, it seems pretty clear that the Ultimatum is better. The production is much better, the directing is better, the story is better, etc. Yet, because so many people attribute fond memories to Diehard, they typically rate it better.
The Bond series is probably the worst about it. Go back and watch some of the Connery films. Some of them are just godawfully cheesy. And then people blast Casino Royale. In all honesty, I think Daniel Craig beats the shit out of all the other Bonds, even Connery and Brosnan. He seems more like what a spy would be like -- kind of an asshole, but a badass fighter.
I wiped my ass with a few pages from Hamlet this morning.

I think the latest Casino Royale is the best Bond film so far, Quantum of Solace sucked big time.
