Does anyone else think fanboys are like the outgoing US administration with their paranoia over 'terrorism'?

They fuss over their long-range 'intelligence' sources, raising and lowering the 'threat level' based on some distant and obscure 'threat' or other, slowly working themselves up into such a lather that they have to resort to:

"You're either with us, or against us!"

(NOTE: This thread is not about the outgoing US administration, it is about fanboyism and I will report any derailments in that direction (I'm just using said administration as a useful analogy to get the ball rolling)).

I'm guessing its one of those "OMG (insert country here) is the greatest country in the world, so fuck you"  His post is clearly aimed at the U.S., but all nations are guilty here.

and to your sig: yes, my stats were reset a few months ago, despite me not playing for over a year.

Oh well. I tried.

Next time I will make it a veiled dig the US - at least then, annoyingly, I bet, it would get more replies.

lol You put "Discuss" in your topic title.

What did you think we would discuss in here, the sound of crickets?

It's a statement of disappointment at the apparent narrow 'three topic' mindset of the D&ST regulars.

How about trying to discuss the topic of the thread.

i.e. FANBOYS!

Shocked. No.

I put the statement about this not being a thread about the outgoing US administration because I knew if I didn't, people would think it was.

So, Disappointed. Yes.

Because I thought having put that statement in my OP, I would not have to then explain in detail how it's not a thread about the outgoing US administration.

C'mon people - the OP clearly states what I do and do not wish to be discussed in this thread - imo, any reasonably intelligent person should be able to offer a well reasoned opinion on any subject - even if that opinion is no more than "meh, whatever".

*awaits 20 "meh, whatever" replies...*

No.

Your topic posed the question:

Then you qualify your statement further:

Scorpion0x17 wrote:

Add in a quote:

And then have the nerve to tell us:

So how are we meant to respond?

Yeah, fanboys... they sure are a weird bunch.

Which part of the concept of 'analogy' do you not understand?

And, yeah, if your opinion is just "Yeah, fanboys... they sure are a weird bunch" that's fine.

I guess it's just a case that no-one else here is interested in, or wishes to discuss, why fanboys act the way they do.

Drop into the tech section from time to time.

They're the one saying "Buy this" or "Buy that" with no reasoned argument as to why you should.

With this statement, I get the impression you are making the case that fanboy's from the tech section telling people to buy stuff are a lot like the Bush Administration because they are paranoid over terrorism? lol....

Maybe it would be helpful to define what you mean by 'fanboys' and in what context.

Our resident tech fanboys were the spark that caused the post.

And it's the pouring over pre-release material (which, in my OP, I compare to pouring over of long-range military intelligence), then there's the jumping on and off each and every bandwagon as they come along (which, in my OP, I compare to the continuous tweaking of the 'threat level') and there's the point at which, for no particular reason, they settle on one bandwaggon (which, in my OP, I compare to saying "you're either with us or against us").

What causes us, the human race, to behave like this??

We are, when we want to be, the most rational creatures on the planet.

But so often, it seems we are the opposite too.

Grow up, if you don't like the "fanboys" stay out of the tech section. They are helpful and smart people and provide more than just

Scorpion0x17 wrote:

saying "Buy this" or "Buy that" with no reasoned argument as to why you should.
They do explain the merits of either option as well as flaws.

The DEFINITION of a fanboy is some that just says "Buy this" or "Buy that" with no reasoned argument.

I am not saying everyone in the tech section is like that.

But some are. And they caused the post.

But, just as this thread isn't about a whole load of things, it also isn't about our own dear fanboys.

Just fanboys in general and the causes of fanboyism.

The concept here is not a difficult one to grasp.
