No.

And before someone else asked, who discusses politics at /b/ anyway?

Sometimes.  I generally do not like to make my political leanings known in social settings, unless provoked.

Mostly never because I'm an antagonistic, intellectually-confrontational asshole that certainly does not shy away from a good debate.

What purpose does it serve to represent yourself politically when you're 'afraid' to be honest to your peers IRL? I can't see any reason for it, unless you were a closet Ku Klux Klan member or something...

Funny, I was faced with this the other day. I was working with a soldier and having a great conversation, until he let me know about his devout Christianity and asked me if I were Christian.  Suddenly, I was on DST spouting off my reasons as to why I am not and how ( especially) his religion is hypocritical. We were civil and it was a pretty good conversation about religion, ( and we still talk and laugh), but He was left with the inevitable defense all Christians use as a last ditch effort to save an argument. Were you in a fight with Jesus about religion?

^This.

But the times I have (specifically around election time), I do it in a civil way. For example, a couple of weeks before election day - I think it was the day after the VP debate and we were discussing it in USH+G - we were discussing the top of gay marriage. It was I, a friend of mine and a few other people mixed in. My friend stated that he didn't believe people who could naturally have children should be able to have them...so I asked if he thought people who were infertile shouldn't be allowed to either. Was a very interesting discussion and even though he had his ignorant points, we remained civil throughout the entire time.

lol Lowing. I know the feeling.

Whenever I get into an argument about religion with someone like that (and I'll admit I often provoke it) I ask about everyone that was around before Christ announced the one true God. If you were a good person, never killed etc, but worshiped Jupiter would you go to Heaven, or Hell because you were a non-believer and worshiped a Pagan\False God?

The dumbest answer so far was that Joesph and Mary were around at that time so everybody knew about God before Jesus came along.

The only topics I tend to stay out of is Religion.

99% of the time I hardly talk about it as something stupid is said/happens.

Nope. I have similar discussions with coworkers, family members, and friends.

None of them are nearly as knuckle-headed as some of the DSTers, though.

Nope.  I can calmly type some thing which I have a hard time discussing.

As some of you know, I feel very strongly about gun-rights.  When people get into discussions on that topic and start trying to use an individual's deaths as justification for their political agenda of more restrictions, it pisses me off...partly because it is a poor arugment and partly because strict gun laws did nothing to help one of my friends who was murdered.  Frankly, if a Brady Campaign supporter had started going on about the need for a new "assault weapons ban" the day after the NIU shooting, (as the group did, even though the topics had nothing to do with each other), I might not have been able to refrain from a few, choice words or worse.

I also generally stay out of partisan political debates and religious discussions, except with my close friends.

At Tim Horton's we have this religious group that comes in and they are the type that feel its their job to convert you. Needless to say I kept my mouth shut.

If they only knew my supervisor that they love was a Wicken. Might shit themselves.

I'm actually more reserved on these forums(because i don't know the person i'm arguing with and can't always interpret from text what they are trying to get across... I also realize from reading the suicide thread that most of us have real life issues and i don't wan't to be the person who set them off and then have to live with that)

...in real life as a bartender i say what i feel like saying face to face and i respect the same back... although it can end up
in an altercation...lol... usually not... getting mellower in my old age...  I have some great debates with the young Obamaniacs at work...lol

Amongst friends, or friends' friends, certainly not. I don't confront people I don't know well though. Although I like to think that my answers here are usually more well thought out than answers I give on the spot, because I have time to think whilst typing (a luxury you don't get in a real debate - unless you're a politician, in which case you can recite your prepared speech)
