Most commissioned officers don't really do much (in terms of actual shit) do they? Except in the Air Force, where it's they who are the one's that more or less put their asses on the line (if you can put it that way)

not really. marine grunt officers are right in the shit with you. sadly most think that they can plan for what is going to happen, and freak out when it does not go as planned. its common knowledge among grunts that the second you move towards your objective, the plan is fucked. you have to be able to adjust on the fly. and that is hard for some people.

I am not actually a serviceman yet, contemplating the USAF or the ARMY, but utmost respect for 99% of the armed forces (1% being the unknown amount who do the bad shit in uniform on camera etc)

Stuff like that is tolerable, you know as long as it isn't in a combat zone, I saw a patrol video where they lip synced while driving over the entire course (forgot how many hours they drove a day but probably enough to make them do it), that's fine, humor like the lulz is okay, but you definately need to be serious in the military, dogs off cliffs isn't lulz IRL, maybe on teh interwebs
