Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

Oh, it would be soooo neat to see some kind of facts or justification for your statement. Too bad you don't have any.Dilbert_X wrote:
No-one here is defending this, blindly supporting them however stupid they or they policies are.
We don't have the 'My President right or wrong' indoctrination as part of our schooling.
Thats the difference.
Try reading more of the thread than just the OP, Brad.Braddock wrote:

And how often does the average school pupil have to repeat the pledge of obedience?FEOS wrote:

Its allegiance, and the proper answer is none. Students can abstain if they wish. And how often does the average school pupil have to repeat the pledge of obedience?
There is no "pledge of obedience". Where the hell do you get your information? Seriously.Dilbert_X wrote:

Why do Americans have the 'My country right or wrong' or 'My President right or wrong'?
How often do we hear 'he's the President STFU' here?
Who is defending what, exactly?oug wrote:

Varegg...have you read the entire thread? Particularly my early response? Is it just too subtle to get the point across or something?varegg wrote:

He's referring to 'I pledge alligiance to the flag, and the people of the USofA'....FEOS wrote:

Yes i did ... and i think your responce is equally fail as the OP, like so many others on this this forum you blame others for a mistake you made in this thread ... hence why i stated you normally make threads much better than this, this was a mistake and you should be man enough to admit that ...FEOS wrote:

I think the 'subtlety' of the OP was lost when you said 'SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP' at the end of your post. Otherwise I would have assumed it to be what you intended. Either way, what generalizing done by Europeans are you referring to? Or just the two in the OP?FEOS wrote:
I see...so you guys don't like it when the entirety of Europe (or any individual country in Europe) gets painted with a single broad brush based on the comments or actions of certain representatives...even when those representatives are elected officials, voted in by your enlightened selves?
Welcome to the pool. The water's warm.
Apparently, the subtlety of the OP is lost on many of you in your attempt to defend yourselves. Understandable.
I don't for one second think that Europe is full of a bunch of racists. I fully realize that various European countries have their own internal issues they are still struggling with. And believe me when I say that I know for a fact that elected officials' comments (and at times policies) do not reflect on the population as a whole.
Some prominent European personalities made some stupid comments. And you felt that labeling all of Europe based on those comments was wrong. It happens all the time here, just rarely to euros.

I generally agree with you.CameronPoe wrote:
I think the irony here FEOS is that you appear to be lambasting Europeans for making generalisations about Americans which in itself is a generalisation ... but perhaps I'm generalising.
Correct me if I'm wrong: You feel that Europeans are wrongfully accusing you of being backwards and this is a defensive "you're scum too so stfu" thread. No?FEOS wrote:

Perhaps it could have been framed differently...but I was intentionally going for a bit of shock value. Was there a bit of frustration at the ridiculous double standards I see applied daily in these forums by non-US people on the US as a whole and our government's policies specifically? Sure.Varegg wrote:

No you just take it that way.FEOS wrote:
