We don't have the 'My President right or wrong' indoctrination as part of our schooling.

Thats the difference.
Oh, it would be soooo neat to see some kind of facts or justification for your statement. Too bad you don't have any.

Spoiler (highlight to read):
We don't have that kind of "indoctrination" either.

Try reading more of the thread than just the OP, Brad.

And how often does the average school pupil have to repeat the pledge of obedience?
Why do Americans have the 'My country right or wrong' or 'My President right or wrong'?
How often do we hear 'he's the President STFU' here?

There is no "pledge of obedience". Where the hell do you get your information? Seriously.

We don't. Or are you purposefully painting all Americans with a single brush based on your experience with a handful?

I think the irony here FEOS is that you appear to be lambasting Europeans for making generalisations about Americans which in itself is a generalisation ... but perhaps I'm generalising.

Yes i did ... and i think your responce is equally fail as the OP, like so many others on this this forum you blame others for a mistake you made in this thread ... hence why i stated you normally make threads much better than this, this was a mistake and you should be man enough to admit that ...

I see...so you guys don't like it when the entirety of Europe (or any individual country in Europe) gets painted with a single broad brush based on the comments or actions of certain representatives...even when those representatives are elected officials, voted in by your enlightened selves?

Welcome to the pool. The water's warm.

Apparently, the subtlety of the OP is lost on many of you in your attempt to defend yourselves. Understandable.

I don't for one second think that Europe is full of a bunch of racists. I fully realize that various European countries have their own internal issues they are still struggling with. And believe me when I say that I know for a fact that elected officials' comments (and at times policies) do not reflect on the population as a whole.

Some prominent European personalities made some stupid comments. And you felt that labeling all of Europe based on those comments was wrong. It happens all the time here, just rarely to euros.
I think the 'subtlety' of the OP was lost when you said 'SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP' at the end of your post. Otherwise I would have assumed it to be what you intended. Either way, what generalizing done by Europeans are you referring to? Or just the two in the OP?

If US govt policy is an issue then the US will be criticised, same as anywhere else.
No-one believes every single American necessarily believes wholeheartedly in it but if its policy then comments will address 'the US' not specifically who was behind a particular policy.

OTOH Americans seem to take any comment about their Presiduhnt to be an attack on the nation itself.
Get a grip, he's just a monkey in a suit.

Correct me if I'm wrong: You feel that Europeans are wrongfully accusing you of being backwards and this is a defensive "you're scum too so stfu" thread. No?

Perhaps it could have been framed differently...but I was intentionally going for a bit of shock value. Was there a bit of frustration at the ridiculous double standards I see applied daily in these forums by non-US people on the US as a whole and our government's policies specifically? Sure.

The fact remains that elected leaders of European countries made racist comments. Stupid comments. So, taking an opportunity to give some of you a taste of your own medicine, I applied the same failed logic many here do when the issue involves the US (not just the "Presiduhnt", Dilbert).

And what happened?

Flames galore.

For doing exactly the same thing that many of those flaming me have done...repeatedly. Shoe's on the other foot. And some don't like how it fits.

But I'm supposed to be "man enough" to admit something I have already freely admitted. How many of you who apply ridiculous double-standards and generalizations (many of which involve double-standards and generalizations themselves) are "man enough" to admit it? Hell, I'm willing to bet that it's so second-nature to many of you that you don't even realize you're doing it...or don't care. But you sure are quick to defend your positions when called on it.

On this forum, primarily.

OK. I'll correct you: you're wrong.

I think I have explained my intent fairly clearly. It has nothing to do with accusations of being backwards. It has everything to do with elected officials saying/doing something stupid and their constituents being painted with the same brush here on BF2S...just in this instance, it's being done by someone from the US against Europeans.

And for some reason, you guys take issue with it...strange.

PS: If you used wikipedia to find out Berlusconi is Prime Minister in Italy it is wrong, he resigned in May this year ...
