UDA To Take Action If Nationalists Threaten Its 'British-ness'

"The UDA has issued a belligerent statement to mark Remembrance Day in the North, threatening to take action if nationalists threaten its "British-ness". Yesterday, the Independent Monitoring Commission suggested London set a deadline for decommissioning after "disappointing" progress. In strong contrast to last year's UDA statement, which was regarded as conciliatory, this year's is more militant. It says it remains ready to face the republican threat which, it says, is non-violent but every bit as dangerous and must be combated. It accuses republicans of racism, ignorance and bigotry. The Independent Monitoring Commission's Joe Brosnan, a former secretary of the Department of Justice in Dublin, yesterday suggested a deadline be set for loyalists to move forward and decommission.

When is someone going to call these cunts to account? The IRA have been leaned on from all angles since the Good Friday agreement, thus leading to full decommissioning - as verified by the independent monitoring body, and yet they still draw criticism and pressure from select camps as Unionist politicians continue to place obstacles and demands in the way of full devolution as it was delineated in the original agreement... all the while not one Unionist bullet has been handed over.

Enough of the double standards already.

Ireland's politics are the most confusing in the world, seriously, I never know what the hell's going on.

Same, you make it seem as if us UK'ers, we're all getting massively unionist biased reports down here and we're all rooting for the unionist cause. But the real fact is that we have abso-fucking-loutly no idea what the hell is going on in Northern Ireland and most of us could care less about unionists/loyalists or pretty much anything that goes on in Northern Ireland, I could actually say most people here probably care more about Afghanistan and "winning" that.

Well maybe that's England & Wales, might be different in Scotland/Glasgow with all that sectarian stuff that goes in in there.

Actually I know exactly what you mean. I always get the impression from the majority of English people I meet that they couldn't give a shit about the North. Scotland is different because most of the Unionists in the North are of Scottish origin and there's the whole Celtic Rangers thing too. As for the Welsh I've always thought they were more on the Irish side... there is even a saying we have here regarding the Welsh: "brothers under the skin".

If they carry out their threat and republican paramilitaries reform to protect their people you will give a fuck., as it will be all over your TV and in your back yard again in a flash. As well as draining your economy. I'm worried for the first time in years.

Welsh just want in on the flag

So are the unionists/loyalists like the same/similar? Or are they seperate groups who dislike each other as well?

Too many group names!

Hmm and there was me up in the north only this Monday, in ecomonic terms Ireland doesn't want the north back it costs an arm n a leg to run to place !!  (no pun intended) But in saying that the Irish gov has bought quite a few buildings up there over the years in prep of a united Ireland.

When things are really polarised, yes would be the short pithy answer.  However there are people who may well be Unionist but are not necessarily Monarchists / Loyalists and could well be Catholic Nationalist. there are even Protestants who are Republican in nature. Yes it is pretty complicated.  Things are very fractured at present in the Unionist / Loyalist camp, with a new Anti-agreement Loyalist party forming (TUV http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traditional_Unionist_Voice ) to attract those who believed that the DUP (Right wing Loyalist political party) would keep Sinn Féin / IRA out of government at all costs and who feel betrayed.  They are the Republican haters who don't want to share power at all.
