No. I thought Pug was talking about EU since other non EU countries don't have such big armies.

Say what ? Speaking of arrogant ... the entire statement flies in the face of how societies are formed and belies deep seated ultra leftist denial of anarchist feelings.

Societies initially retain cohesion by force and aggressive influence whether admitted to or not, the entire root of law and is the only alternative to anarchy.

Could anyone refute fact that societies are the result of trickle down forceful or aggressive influence ?  Certainly the Taliban operate on the "please, please please" rule don't they ? PRC? DPRK? PRVN? So you don't wanna wear your burka or habib ?  Not that we care but can you actually prove you were a rape victim ?  NO? OK ! Have we got a deep pit and a lot of stone throwers for you, sweetheart !
Force and aggressive influence? Yeah sure. You are correct. Our force and aggressive influence? No.

Can anyone seriously entertain the concept that access to 'the ultimate button' should be laizze-faire ?  I'm sorry but I must suggest you seek a mental health professional.
I don't think it should be laissez faire - I think there should be standards and principles. As soon as all current nuclear nations give up their weapons then perhaps we might approach a fair situation. Free pass for Israel anyone? Breach of NPT for India anyone?

NgoDamWei wrote:

Just what does that mean ?  I hope there's not the suggestion that it means "gimme yer oil 'n I'll give ya' the button".
No it means that Iran have a card in their deck that many are willing to play for - oil. Not for the button but for soft treatment of their purported quest for the button. Instead of continuing to alienate Iran they need to be offered parity of esteem. Unfortunately our short-sighted arrogance could quite possibly be destined to remove Iran's oil from the world oil supply.

I would like to see a more active EU forefront.

I don't like a passive and isolationist attitude (1918-1939 anyone?). Besides, all we do here is bitch and moan about eachother. Has any of you ever thought of the possibility of solving problems without military interference? (that being a last resort.)

Europe as basically one entity could be very effective in the negotiation role. You don't have to push your own morals down someone else's throat to accomplish this.

Nevertheless I don't see it happening any time soon, the only possible thing that could ever bring atleast a tiny bit of unity on this continent is a gigantic disaster. Everyone wants to profit from the EU but noone wants to actually contribute.

If there's one thing I really can't stand it's being in the spectator role not doing anything, and turning a blind eye to (for example) people like saddam.

Las Vegas?

USA also created the first national parks and protected regions of a similar nature. If you want to see countries that really don't give a shit about environmental pollution, take a look at China, India and Russia. Ural mountains are one of the most polluted regions in the world and Novaya Zemlya is used as a nuclear waste dumping ground where they sink old reactors in the waterways.

All the lights maybe? Tokyo kinda blows Vegas out of the water for that one, only other thing I can think of is the Hoover dam which supplies clean power and water to a huge area, so not really pollution. If you're talking about that coal plant they operate then that's a stone in the pacific compared to what China's power stations belch out or even what cars put out in Japanese cities. There's a reason they wear those face masks.

What a bunch of deluded tools !

Settle down ? ... to what ? Quiet evil ?  Not hardly.

The US is not at this time very aggressive in Africa.  Is Africa 'settled down'? It's a damned short list of any place there that's settled.

You really expect the Hammies, the Hezzies, Talis, actually anything Islamic related, to 'settle down'?

That dude who addresses the world in an open collar shirt, shabby excuse of a beard and seedy sport coat ?  How humble of him.

How 'bout those furry faced fellows in long dresses and rumpled bedsheets on their heads chanting "Allah Akbar" that won't allow their cultures to advance out of the 5th century BC except for guns, Katusha's and nuclear devices ?  Sorry, I forgot cell phone detonators and Al Jezerrah.

O yea, then there's sweet ol' Hugo and Kimmy Jung, both the epitome of 'settled'.

Sad Ham, another settled fellow:  settled his first political dispute at age 14, killed his uncle.  He settled more of his political disputes with mass graves and chemical pellets.

Yep, it'll settle down, for shua.  PHATT CHANCE !

how many people live in Tokyo compared to Las Vegas? Then compare the power consumption per head.

People are aware that a whole lot of the problems in the world right now are the results of Europe's far less passive past aren't they?
