McCain's is apparently still strong, in "the real parts of America".

I'm am so god damned tired of this down home superiority.  Someone please explain to me how rural backwoods, cousin-fucking, gap-toothed rednecks are any better or worse than faggy, tree-hugging, PETA supporting, Jew Yorkers.  Not to mention the millions of douchetastic suburbanites, trying to straddle both inane worlds.

We are all equal parts shit and hypocrisy.  No matter where we live or how we vote.

Speaking for my own country. I can safely say there is a massive divide between North and South. And tourists that visit London get the wrong impression of my country.

The south sucks, visit real England.

Agreed. I'd rather have "the real America" NOT be the stereotypical redneck.

Idiots who can only get their sense of patriotism, by calling others the opposite. That's what i've noticed alot about them type of people. The USA needs another civil war, put 'em back in their place...

That's an interesting story. I just got back from driving along the Skyline Parkway through the Shenandoah National Park. I went through a lot of the country that the OP's story is talking about.

I live in Northern VA. Northern VA is not like the rest of the country.

The rest of VA is.

There were A LOT more McCain/Palin signs in the parts of VA that I drove through today than there are in Northern VA (even though it's roughly evenly split along my street).

It made my wife and I wonder if they are polling just in the urban areas around DC, or are they polling in an even distribution across the state. I'd say that if you get outside of Fairfax (and maybe Loudon) County, you'll find far more McCain supporters than Obama supporters. That's a not insignificant fact. One that I think the McCain campaign is pointing out. And there are some VERY populated areas along the coast that are likely leaning McCain (Hampton Roads and VA Beach/Oceana area are very heavy military=conservative).

While the characterization of "real" VA vs the NCR is unnecessarily contentious, they are making a valid point.

Unfortunately, there are some areas of the US where quite a few people don't support our country (I can understand not supporting the administration, but I am NOT talking about this).  Yes, some people agree with statements like "God damn America" (wait, do you really want to damn your own country?!)  There are people who will tell Marines that their kind "are not wanted here" and "have no right to be here" (apparently swearing to defend the Constitution makes them unworthy to live under it...?).  Now, I dislike how the Republicans try to play this in their favor, but many of the areas with higher concentrations of those people do normally go Democratic.  Does that mean Democrats are unpatriotic?  Of course not!  However, the Republican's claim does have a grain of truth do it, which they use to unfairly stereotype their opponents.

More dumb moves from the McCain camp.

McCain campaign adviser divides the country up ..

My point was Gordon Brown couldn't attract a crowd of 4 body guards, even if he paid them.
