Yea I know. I have a lot to learn to draw like a real artist. I'm self taught, and I've only had like a month of lessons (but that was years ago and I never did any pencil drawings, just stupid kid stuff).

That's like me, basically just built up what I know from doodling and stuff over the years

Your art is really good, but I noticed you don't have any depth to them, it's always just an outline. You should try shading and blending.

I do some times, but my scanner never really picks it up that well which sucks. I really need to get myself PS so I can really go to town on my stuff.

I don't really touch my work in PS, just adjust the levels, really. Otherwise it's not your true work and it looks fake.

Yeah, photos and stuff I'd just leave alone cos I don't really see much of the point of altering the image unless you're doing it for some arty effect. But for colouring some images in a watercolour effect I'd like to do.

A little 3d characther piece I'm working on, used what I had of the face to create this little wallpaper

I made this for, and whilst waiting for my forest computer to boot, uninstall F-Secure, install VLC, transfer some music and reboot. I put it as a wallpaper on it, just for fun. Whole process took about half an hour.

If you have no idea of what I'm talking about (which I'm sure you don't), I'm dumping an old computer in the nearby woods, to see how long it'll last before it breaks. Gonna take it in once a week to test it. I'm thinking of making a YouTube series on it

EDIT: I know it doesn't look good, just thought I'd share and bump

What does it say?

I drew this about 8 years ago, when I was in high school.  It's the only drawing I have scanned at the moment...

The dragon/dwarf was in a D&D rulebook...I changed it a little, but the rest is from imagination.

From an artistic standpoint, it could have more depth to the shading, and theres a few proportion issues (although the guy in the center is supposed to be human, the guy behind him an elf, and the guy in the dragon's mouth a dwarf, so that's not what I'm referring to...)

The full-sized scan lets you really zoom in...there were details present that I was trying to do, but they were literally so small that I couldn't really make them out even as I was attempting to draw them in - if that makes sense.  I wasn't able to really see them 'til I zoomed in on the scan.  The dragon wrapped around the central character's sword pommel is a good example.

I really felt I did a good job with shading the dragon scales and with the minute details like the chainmail armor and weapons' engravings, the appearance of the wood (especially the grain) and the landscape, while bland, was my first real attempt at putting a background into one of my pictures (I like the dragon's cave at the bottom left).




I really need to start drawing again...

The last 2 are really nice, i like the "oldschool" effect on the engine room, maybe need more contrast or a bit of artifac to make it look old. The color effect on the last one is nice, nice pics!

Try and make the cut a bit cleaner next time. You can still see a bit of the white.

If you've got Photoshop CS3, click on the 'Select' button at the top and choose 'Refine Edge'



A menu will pop up and you can choose to smooth the edge as well as contract/expand the selection.

The white line is from the sharpen filter, not the refine edge
