Today commemorates the 40th anniversary of the civil rights campaign here and is viewed by many as the first day of the "troubles". After the events of that day what unfolded led to the deaths of thousands of people and the misery of millions for three decades.
I was at the christening of a friends child last weekend & chatting to his mother I learned that she walked this march 40 years ago with her then good friend Bernadette Devlin (who Loyalists later tried to assassinate with the collusion of British Crown Forces) . The amazing thing is she will be walking the same route today to commemorate the anniversary with her 10 Children, 14 grand children and 1 Great grand child. I guess the world keeps on turning.
