The UK is not, I repeat NOT a christian country - it may have a deeply embeded christian history, but that does not make us a christian country - the UK has a secular society - that is we, the people, are made up from all religious backgrounds, not just christianity.
Typical Daily Mail dross.
It's a DAILY MAIL wide issue.FatherTed wrote:
So this one college does this, and receives tons of condemnation, and its a GB-wide issue?
Fucking.Insane.

Except they probably include wastage in those figures. At least I hope they do.FatherTed wrote:

Which is 2.3mil's worth of stupid people.
per month.
Massive circulation. One of the most read papers in the English speaking world. Which is a shame considering; their complete lack of factual accuracy in a great number of stories, their support of pro-Hitler fascist Oswald Mosley (and other fascists - Mussolini and Hitler were both associated with the paper), their support of apartheid in South Africa and so on.....Kmarion wrote:

Same hear, just like I hate atheists who don't respect our beliefs and hate us setting up Christmas ornaments and such on our own property.Mutantsteak wrote:

Nope, I was just patiently waiting for someone to say something about appeasement and the excuse for agreeing that removing western holidays from calandars is right because they are offensive, instead of the usual bullshit about how sources you do not agree with are biased.Braddock wrote:
Has lowing just completely disappeared off the radar in this thread since it was uncovered that the only 'news source' covering this 'story' is the habitually mendacious Daily Mail?
I'm waiting for a source other than the Daily Mail or a website citing the Daily Mail as a source before I believe the story in question. I simply do not believe anything I hear from the Daily Mail anymore; The Daily Mail is a work of fiction in my opinion these days.lowing wrote:

The Daily Mail has once again been proven to have taken a small misunderstanding and blown it into a national Islamophobic scandal (before your very eyes in this case). There never was any 'appeasement' going on here...the Christmas trees were still going to be put up, Christmas lunch was still on the menu and all was well in Yorkshire Coast college and yet you still bought into the Daily Mail's bullshit.

Then what exactly was happening then that could be described as "appeasement"? That an INTERNAL staff calendar may have swapped the word Christmas with holidays? Hold the front page!lowing wrote:

"The controversy was sparked when the Evening News received information from a member of staff regarding the college's staff calendar.
The information was confirmed in a statement from the college and it caused reaction from throughout the country and abroad. But Mrs Kitching said yesterday the only change was to the internal calendar and followed the example of many schools and colleges."
Lets see, I will use, "the information was confirmed", t ocite the validity of the article as it is apparant it wasn't a biased report, but factual.
I will also cite "followed the example of many schools and colleges" for its appeasement evidence.
PS, niether I nor the Daily mail made claims that they were going to cancel Christmas.
Nope, the story was true as evidenced by 1 the other article which said it was "confirmed" and 2 the apology, and 3 the fact they state they are just following the trend that other instituions are doing...Do not ignore my post Braddock, you were pretty smug with your "balls in your court" bullshit So now what? They story was confirmed they did remove Christmas and Easter, it WAS to NOT offend and they are following a trend already in practice.Braddock wrote:

I'm sorry lowing but the Daily Mail took a mole hill and made it into a mountain...yet again.

Not offend who lowing, the Muslim staff at the college? It was an internal staff calendar, the average Muslim attending the college would be none the wiser of how their offence had been spared so it's hardly a meaningful form of appeasement is it?lowing wrote:

1. It was done not to anyone who might be offended. Take it as you will.Braddock wrote:

Christmas was still going to be celebrated in the college, complete with a nice tree on the campus and a special Christmas dinner so I really don't see what the fucking issue is.
Don't get me wrong lowing, like you I can't stand people who are pedantic about political correctness and worry about every little term and phrase in case it offends someone but you are just as pedantic in the opposite direction...hounding down every act of political correctness no matter how pointless and insignificant it might be. Can you not see that?
You're still dodging my question a little lowing...where is the appeasement here? Forgive me, but could you spell it out for me...is it really just the use of the word 'holidays' on an internal staff calendar?lowing wrote:

2. The article never said that the holidays were going to be canceled, that was you trying be more dramatic about what was said, to make it sound more absurd, to bolster your argument.
3. I didn't write the article, obviously there was enough outcry about this bullshit ( and it wasn't from me) that the college felt a need to apologize. So although you will dismiss this, like you do every other act of appeasemnt and PC motivated play as insignifant, I feel that all of these little actions forms a pattern for one big one... You may not feel that way, but it would appear I am not alone in thinking it does.
