no, but online isn't multiplayer, it just means that the other creatures are player-made, rather than just made by maxis.Mutantsteak wrote:

Maxis dropped the idea and opted instead for stringent online-authentication, but EA seems to have included it on the disc anyway.
So in short, yes you can install the game multiple times... provided you download the community crack from a torrent site.
Almost done installing, yay.
I know, but I like that, I payed for the fucking gameMiggle wrote:

Well I didn't, and I see very little reason why I should.Mutantsteak wrote:

AFAIK the DRM was never removed, and I hardly like the game enough to pay $50 for it.
Space stage is the only remotely fun part of the game, and even that is often repetitive.
Can I send the game back if it doesn't work? because it doesntMiggle wrote:

I'm getting Bioshock flashbacks, and I haven't even gotten my copy of Spore yet. Thanks to publisher-intervention, people are flocking to pirate sites to download cracks, and are incidentally discovering how easy it is to just 'get games for free.' Way to go, EA.

Had to lighten the mood a bit, only thing I can think of is try and take it back to where you bought it and say it doesn't work, or you can try to see if EA can send you the link.Mutantsteak wrote:

This DRM has been in place on a lot of EA games in the last year or two.usmarine wrote:

It's certainly not Spore exclusive .

Mutant as far as i'm aware the 3 installs means 3 machines. Thats how it is in Mass Effect anyway (as far as I know). It leaves something on your computer so it knows you can install it again.
*however*
If you change any hardware, install it on a different profile, etc etc then it counts as another activation.
*however* (again) I heard plenty of stories of people installing and uninstalling on the same machine and then they ran out. God. It's so infuriating isnt it. Thats how it was with Mass Effect and it might be like that with Spore too.
If I were you i'd contact EA and simply ask if uninstalling and then installing it again counts. No point in guessing.

In the worst-case scenario you can just call EA Customer Support and explain your situation, they have a policy where they assess each DRM-issue on an individual basis and then decide if a new CD key should be distributed for free (i.e. if the 3-installs rule performed erraneously).

What do you think I should do now, should I try to reinstall and if it doesn't work try one more time, use up my 3 installs and attempt to get a replacement from newegg? Should I call customer support before I reinstall?Uzique wrote:

Take it back to the store, tell them it keeps crashing. They'll try it on their computers (maybe) and if it doesn't work, they'll give you a new copy.Mutantsteak wrote:

Reinstall once to see if that solves your problem, but take no chances with the reinstall. Do a complete uninstall of the game and uninstall all other associated programs such as Spore Creature Creator and EA Download Manager (these cause conflicts with the torrented version so I have reason to believe the share properties with the Spore.exe and engine), and also make sure you remove all registry entries and folders to do with SPORE. Then install the game again from fresh and see if it solves your problem. If it doesn't then I would definitely call customer support and/or seek troubleshooting help with your error on the Internetz.Mutantsteak wrote:

Best of luck . No real harm in trying once! Definitely don't use all 3 of your reinstall opportunities on trying to fix this one problem; if one complete uninstall doesn't solve the problem, it'll be totally pointless to continue wasting your other DRM 'lives' doing the same thing!

Reinstalling now, if this doesn't work I'm sending it back
