Okay.  The brits are going to get it in the ass very soon too.  Just like the Americans have been feeling the pinch ah la like our resident ATG.

It would be wise to hunker down and weather the storm fellow britons.

people in the UK arent in debt because they have mortgages. Everyone in the UK has a mortgage and have done for the last 40 years.

People are in debt because they get loan out for a new fucking TV or sofa, or they buy one of these "don't pay anything for a year" deals quite simply because they can't afford it yet assume they can next year. All I can say is these people are totally short sighted. Basically people buying material goods that aren't essential for life from other peoples money. Fair enough if you get a loan for a car, personally I would just buy a cheap car either way the car will help to earn you money. Does a couch or TV help you earn money? Does a new bed earn you money?

Kmarion we have the NHS, you don't need to get money out for treatment.

Method. Maybe, but either way I don't get loans out that I can't afford to pay back.  Im willing to bet your more rich than me though, so bit cheap coming from you.

id rather be dead broke.  Ive got enough to pay my car note, my insurance, my utilities, my cell, my cable and internet, my school shit, some clothes every once in a while and groceries.

After all that Im waiting for the next paycheck to do it all over again.  I dont have the $90 in the budget to fix my xbox 360.  And if Im fortunate enough to mingle with a female, Im buying cheap groceries and might skip a cell phone payment.

but, im gonna start collecting GI Bill and financial aid so my income will probably more than double by the end of next month.  thankyou democratic controlled congress.   All the shit people talk about government not doing anything they sure as shit are doing something for me.

Dont get me wrong I do somewhat agree with your premise.  Yes, I have a good job and am paid well, but i still live modestly my only extravagance is my BMW but i am getting rid of it soon.

TBH i dont get the time to spend my money anyway.

Alls I'm gonna say is.

We don't pay for healthcare. I'd rather wait 4 hours in crippling pain in a room with 50 others also in pain and moaning than pay. What a nice day that was.

And as I said in the last UK thread about 2 days ago:

I'm sure we'll manage.

It's funny how on these forums,  in RL, on talk radio and on television, when liberals fail to communicate their ideas in a manner that is mass palatable and it doesn't go over, or when they disagree with somebody they always resort to unneeded name calling.

It demonstrates a failure of confidence in their ideas, and a lack of security in the intellectual foundations of their beliefs that manifests itself in a hostile demeanor and smug attitude when it comes to opposing ideas; lacking the intellectual substance to your argument you divert attention from that fact by calling him a dumb ass when his tone was inquiring and thoughtful, dumb ass.

"Manage" as in the financial 'crisis' is overhyped and sensationalist.

We may have to tighten our purse-strings and contain our rabid consumerist binges (Oh no! No more thrice-weekly visits to the shopping mall!) but I'm sure we won't have widespread starvation and poverty, or a giant increase in the amount of home repossessions and job redundancies. That's the sign of a true economic downturn- and I think the British economy is in a decent enough position to absorb a downtime without sinking to that sort of low. The reason that our media and even our government officials spout out crap like "We're in for the roughest time financially since WWII rationing!!!!11" is because they know they're addressing a mass-herd of people that are dependant on their credit cards and their loans on gadgetry and shit that they simply don't need.

It's a scare-tactic, albeit a well-justified one. If people in this country did continue mass-borrowing and stupid spending then we could very well run into some large troubles. But as I said the real hallmarks of a recession won't occur here- there will be no more bank-runs; home repossessions won't reach a crazy level; and I doubt very much that any industry or job sector will be hit hard enough to cause high levels of redundancy.

I don't know. We're not one of those families that vote as a family. We're not fucking morons in other words. Everyone has their own opinions of things and has their own attitude towards politics.

I voted Conservative last election (mayoral and some local one), and so did my sister. Dunno about the rest, probably didn't even vote

Fucking Labour won in my area though, too many new-age immigrants that came within the last 10 years who take the piss and who would obviously vote for Labour. I don't even know why this area votes Labour, it's a relatively middle class and affluent area.

How the fuck can a Socialist Left Wing part be so fucking neo-con when it comes to Foreign Affairs too. The same fucks who hate Labour for going to all the wars also still fucking vote for them because of all the benefits and shit. The electorate here are a bunch of twats

Pretty much, yep.

We don't vote as a family, (almost) everyone in my family, and street, happens to believe in the Conservatives.

Lib Dems in locals and in General Elections Conservatives. I'd go the same way too, if i were 18

Yeah the NHS isn't at it's best right now. But it's free, like I've said before using my own example. When I tore a ligament in my leg I was sat in a waiting room for 4 hours, but I still didn't have to pay, and that make it okay.

And the Daily mail should just go and write propaganda for Pravda or something.
