I love computers.
My old computer has onboard graphics, so I couldnt play BF2 when I first bought it.
Now, With my new computer, I can only play singleplayer.
I has:
2.66Ghz Intel E8200
2GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 9800 GTX
Vista Home premium

When I try to join a server, the game Crashes. Re-installed and Re-patched with 1.41 about 8 times.
The browser displays servers, but when I click to join, game freezes.
When I try to connect by IP, as soon as I click connect, the game freezes.
Same Issue with 2142, only no servers come up with browser (Have all appropriate patches)
HALP PLEEZ BF2S!!

Do you have the latest graphics drivers? Try scaling down your res and connect.

No idea how to scale down res.
Latest Graphics drivers. I shall check, but I know for a fact a few months ago I did, then installed a fairly old game. May be DX9.

Edit: Dx10... Checking for new drivers now

First question I ask is do you have SP1 installed?  If not install it.

Second thing you should do is download the DX9 installed from Microsoft's web site.(Download Me)

Lets see if those things work for you.

SP1?
You sure I should get DX9? It is supposed to run fine on DX10

You will actually have both installed at once in Vista.  See DX10 can not run DX9 code so you have to install it in Vista.  Vista comes with both DX9 and DX10 installed but are out of date.

Edit: Yes check your "My Computer" properties and see if it says if you have Service Pack 1 installed or not.

Oh yea I just thought of something else you might want to update.

OpenAL

That was the root of my 3DMark06 problem I had.  It would not install unless I had OpenAL installed.

Fuck.
Vista wont properly vefiry that its genuine, I get the code and the site tries searching the code
MS broke their website
So I cant get DX9 through that URL
Got latest 9800 GTX drivers, though.

Probably a stupid question, but do you have any firewalls that might block BF2 from connecting?

no no no no! All of you are wrong! I've had this problem myself! You need to delete the "battlefield 2"-folder under "my documents". No mather how many times you reinstall or delete the game, the bf2 folder under my documents stays.

Will I have to re-install after deleting the file?

(Edit) Didnt work. Didnt re-install, just deleted and tried again. Will try a re-install later.

No firewalls. Only windows, and BF2 is on the exception list.
I disabled the firewall altogether and it still doesnt work.

NO. That could be it. Its only a multiplayer problem, so that makes sense. Dont understand why it freezes, but still will try.
Plox to be telling me how?

I HAVE IT. I just tried to join a server and it says
memory.dll: thread 1864 is deallocating main thread memory
In a popup after minimizing the game
