Nineteen-Eighty-Four by George Orwell is pretty awesome.

The collected works of Plato aren't bad, and Homer's The Illiad and Odessy are both good, if long and drawn out.

Nick Hornby has some good books ( not About A Boy, but more like A Long Way Down ).
If you want something more reflective, I suggest you read "Before I Die" - even though it's about a teenage girl.
