With the upcoming Olympic games, do you think that AU should boycott the opening ceremonies to protest the abuses of human and civil rights in China?  What is your rational for such a bold, political statement?  Also, do you specifically avoid purchasing Chinese products because of the their human rights abuses?  Do you think of Chinese factories as a form of modern slavery?

Yes. And not just the opening ceremonies. I think that we should not be present in any of the events as a sign of our strong convictions.

An economic boycott would simply hinder hard working Chinese and Australian citizens. Taking a stand on the Olympics brings more focus onto the abuses and oppression of Tibet, to a global audience that the Olympics represents.
