Makes me proud to be a Texan!omgfauxnews.com wrote:
WEATHERFORD, Texas — A man was sentenced to more than 4,000 years in prison Wednesday for sexually assaulting three teenage girls over two years.
A day after finding James Kevin Pope guilty, jurors sentenced him to 40 life prison terms — one for each sex assault conviction — and 20 years for each of the three sexual performance of a child convictions.
At the request of prosecutors, state District Judge Graham Quisenberry ordered Pope to serve the sentences consecutively, adding up to 4,060 years. He will be eligible for parole in the year 3209, according to the Parker County District Attorney's Office.
"We believe it was a just result," prosecutor Robert DuBoise said, adding that he was "overwhelmed" with the judge's decision to stack the sentences.
Pope, 43, abused the girls for nearly two years. It came to authorities' attention earlier this year after Pope made several inappropriate comments to a friend, who notified Child Protective Services.
During the trial, the teens testified about the abuse, and their sexually explicit photographs were shown as evidence.
But Rick Alley, Pope's defense lawyer, told jurors in closing arguments that the victims were incapable of understanding what happened, the Weatherford Democrat reported in its Wednesday online edition.
"If it was as traumatic as they indicate, they would be able to give you (specific dates and times of the incidents). Simply because it's shocking doesn't make it true," Alley said.
During the sentencing phase of the trial, a U.S. Secret Service agent testified that while examining Pope's home computer, he found more than 200 images of child porn.
Later Wednesday, some jurors said the case was difficult because of the subject matter.
"We were careful not to make any mistakes in viewing and evaluating the evidence," said juror Dale Lewis.
he can get out in 2500 for good behavior...
because your fellow texans are sexual deviants?
Anyone proven guilty via dna and sentenced to more years than they are expected to live should be executed.
Deviants are everywhere. Citizens that uphold the law of the land and put the smack down on predators is what I am referring to. : rolleyes:
Nice to see you made it out.

Lol...he walked smack dab into that one!God Save the Queen wrote:

Its kind of stupid. Why give him such a ridiculously long sentence. I understand that they don't want him out of prison, but giving him something like 80 years would have been enough to keep him there indefinitely. When a sentence like 4060 years comes out, it makes the judicial system look childish.
youre kinda stupid
The reason they stack it is so that it's harder to get years removed.rammunition wrote:

Exactly. They should have just said it was life in prison without the possibility of parole.rammunition wrote:

Ya know I kinda agree with you, reluctantly. I wish that he was put to death. Any and all "lifers" should be, I dont want my sales taxes keeping this guy alive for the next 80 years. I want structurally sound bridges. I want highly qualified teachers educating my kid. I want public utilities to be reliable, etc.
The thing Im happy about is that we have laws. If they are broken, they have consequences. The victims and their families didnt get justice by this guy getting put on probation and free to to it again in 3 years. He got sentenced with no slap on the hand, rather everything that he earned. Good Game jurists and Judge. Not childish at all... vigilante.
yeah, it seems more tough, its as if the guy is going to live for 4000 yearsAgent_Dung_Bomb wrote:

Well with advances in modern medicine....
I'm not exactly sure why it is, likely the appeals process, but it costs more money to execute them than to hold them. Then again, there is one thing that is pretty universal. Even the worst of the worst in prisons don't like child molesters. The guys on the inside may take care of it.(T)eflon(S)hadow wrote:

We in England can learn a thing or 2 with the sentences America dishes out, here you can kill and not sent to jail, get 4 years for "manslaughter" but only serve half for "good behaviour" etc(T)eflon(S)hadow wrote:

It takes forever for people, even if they're 110% guilty to actually get executed.rammunition wrote:

Anyway, I should become a judge and be the first to give someone a sentence of over 9,000 years.
whats the highest sentence someone in America has received???HurricaИe wrote:

But ironically, he's been conviceted of rape and sentenced to a few thousand years of rape.ATG wrote:

But not in Texas prisons of course.
......just like Iran...no queers here and we have oil, except we do have more guns.
Not here in Texas. We not only have the death penalty, we have an express lane for those who have given up appeals or had final appeals turned down.Agent_Dung_Bomb wrote:

However, sexual abuse of a child is not a capital offense. It should be, but it isn't. They never want the man to breathe free air again, so they have to sentance him to longer than he can possibly live. With the way the parole system works around here, that is about as secure as they can make it.
That being said, I think the actual sentance of thousands of years is made to help the victims and their families feel justice was truely done.
And actually, this year the US Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty for child molesters is not allowed....at least by the legal system, that is.imortal wrote:

I think they call that poetic justice.Pug wrote:

Talk about stereotypes! You've been watching too many old movies. Austin is one of the most gay-friendly cities in the country.Pug wrote:

More guns AND more pickup trucks.
okay, it is not allowed. It SHOULD be, though. Public hangings; I am old-school.Pug wrote:
