ok. The climate is obviously changing. What can be done? Is the the underlying theme behind rising oil costs; get people to go back to the horse and buggy?

Seems a potent brew is boiling; nearly world wide economic down turn. Drought. Food prices sky rocketing. Governments abandoning their borders.
Maybe the Doomsayers are right and by 2012 we will all be looking back fondly and remembering that thing called the internet as we eat cockroaches and house cats and finally, each other.

Perhaps the world will be like a Twilight Zone ending - strangely ironic in the fact that the "Developing/uncivilized" will be dominating the "Western/Civilized" world because of their ("uncivilzed") failure to give up sustainable farming and buying into the consumer mindset while the "civilized" huddle in the cold cement corner of a condemned warehouse waiting for a nonexistant supermarket to plunder.

Maybe the Western world will be akin to the episode about the guy who loves to read but doesn't have the time until a nuclear blast kills everyone and leaves him with his books, only to have him break his glasses.

I love the Twilight Zone.  Classic.

Climate change is natural and has occurred in far more extremes than what we are currently experiencing.

What most don't believe is that for the last decade the average temperature on earth has decrease, fairly consistently.

As for energy costs I don't know who or what is causing it. All I know is that it is going to be a big deal and not fixed quickly.

there was an ice age, and i'm guessing the north and south pole are still thawing out. i'm no expert but that's just my take on it. i don't deny that there are climate changes and whatnot but idk how unnatural it is.

This is true. But where it has decreased from was still much higher than normal (insert el nino explanation here). Otherwise the ice would not continue to melt at current levels.

20 years is not a good sampling for a planet that has been around for over 4 billion years.

All that chart shows is a bunch of change that happens frequently and erratically. WITHOUT HUMAN INTERVENTION!

It goes up, it goes down.

And it also shows are current temperatures are well within standard fluctuations.

Are you looking at the same picture as us? Because I see a biiiig spike at the end.

One more thing. You seem to have not noticed that while the vast majority of sources say otherwise, you are basing your entire opinion on one source, one journalist who doesn't write about anything else at all! That strikes me as amusingly odd.

Shit yeah, bring on the heat!  You all are a bunch of pussies.  I live above the 45th paralell and could use some tropical weather.  Who the fuck are you to say that the temperature in the 1800s was the CORRECT temp that the earth should be or that there SHOULD be ice at the north pole.

Get over you stupid selves, the climate has never remained constant on this rock.

The spike is a computer model, which didn't really happen.

Many intellectuals do not agree with the commonly accepted global warming explanation. For example, Duke University published a major study that humans play a minimal effect on Earth's climate.

OK so I read the article. Far from discounting human involvment in Global warming, they say this.

Duke U wrote:

Study does not discount the suspected contributions of 'greenhouse gases' in elevating surface temperatures
and this

Duke U wrote:

However, they emphasized that their findings do not argue against the basic theory that significant global warming is occurring because of carbon dioxide and other “greenhouse” gases.
This is far from saying that humans have a minimal effect on Earths climate. Research into alternate theories should be encouraged, however at the moment the overall majority of research points to climate change that is significantly contributed to by humans.

There's two kinds of Global Warming,

Global Warming - Naturalyl influenced, but strangely the only title thrown around.
Enhanced Global Warming - Human influenced.

with all the talk on global warming these days, i've seen plenty of discussion on reducing our carbon footprints, reducing emissions in our vehicles, and reducing consumption.  these are all great ideas but they don't seem to take human population numbers into account.

has anyone looked at reducing the amount of humans on the planet?  i'm not talking genocide here - merely birth control measures.  is the planet capable of supporting more and more people?  last count we are nearing 7 billion.  is THAT sustainable?

Ok I'm awake.

What should I do?

I already try to conserve, I have not even run my AC yet this summer, and it is hitting 90F now.
I'd rather open the windows at night.
I drive a tincan 4 cylinder toyota and I try to make my driving count even though my car only sips the gas.
I will turn off the tv right now since I'm not watching it

Is this a call to action? Is 2012 doom coming? Vote Obama for change? /sorry, that one is already worn out
