There is racism built into everyone. Its human nature to be suspicious of anyone who is visibly different to you. It happens with religion and wealth too.
In saying that, Black people have this trait of human nature too. Suspicious of white people. Although their suspicion has its roots in their past of bondage so you can hardly blame them. Although allot of Black ppl use the past  to justify the present.

Yup and it was Cam's intention to see everyone in this forum agree that I am a racist based on that statement.

TBH, I doubt he cares that much whether their belief is based on that statement.  I also doubt whether he cares what everyone on this forum thinks.  That'd be awfully tiring work.

Or maybe he just did it to have a thread discussing whether people believed you're racist.  Even then, I doubt he wanted, or expected, the whole of the forum to believe you're racist.  I doubt that was even the case for D&ST generally.

I don't know.  Personally, I try to stray away from trying to state the mindset of people I don't interact with on a daily basis, because it makes people (you) sound stupid.

I've been to both Israel and places in Palestine for what it's worth.  It's been about 8 years though.

I see, so based on that, I can not speak of gang violence, or who is commiting these crimes,.......because I am not a gang banger..........Ok I will try and curtail my opinions..

Yes. It shows someone who knows little about Black people and who assumes the worst stereotypes about what most supposedly want in life as gospel truth. This is especially so when confronted repeatedly with statistics, examples, and other information to the contrary.

So despite the historically high number of Blacks enrolled in college and the fact that Blacks have college degrees at a higher rate than the American population as a whole, in lowing's mind Black youth aspire to nothing more than begin shiftless layabouts or a life of crime and perceive an education as "selling out".

so can anyone actually dispute lowing's claims that certain cultures hold back members of their own culture who appear to buy into the establishment (and actually end up succeeding) since it defeats the argument that the culture is oppressed?

this is the kernel of what lowing is saying.  he is (admittedly) not the most eloquent when it comes to the way in which he frames his comments but i think his heart is in the right place.

if you feel that what he said is incorrect, please cite resources and opinions as to why. 

i do not think his comment was intended to be racist.  however, i believe some here are avoiding the actual issue and simply crying racist as a way to discredit the guy.  eventually through repetition of claims of racist posts, this effectively reduces lowing's credibility.  i see this as an effective way to silence someone who has alternative views but just didn't word them the best way.  sorry to pick on you lowing.

again, let's discuss the main issue and not the 'racist' crap.  why do some cultures hold back their own progress?

can people indicate why what lowing says is false?  again, forget black issue - why is it that certain civil rights leaders and media hold these people back by perpetuating the negative stereotypes that we see day to day?  my (and lowing's claim) is that these same influences along with peer pressure actually end up holding them back.  why are we wrong here?  please educate us.

So we have to prove that black people aren't actually demonised as sell-outs if they achieve success in life? How the fuck are we supposed to do that...round up a load of black people and demand answers?

If lowing is referring to those crazy preachers and ministers you see on FOX news whenever they say something that might mess up Obama's presidential race then it must be pointed out that these kind of people don't represent the views of every African American. It's like that sketch in South Park where the black kid has to point out to Kyle that Reverend Jackson "isn't the emperor of all black people"!

EDIT: While these kind of cynical 'civil rights' leaders do undoubtedly exist and exploit the race issue for their own warped agenda it is just far too easy to shift all the blame onto them and away from the racism of previous generations.
