ok, i am upgrading my computer from a socket 939 to an am2, i have purchased this motherboard bundle, with ram and CPU, and i have yet to install it (will do on the weekend)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SKT-AM2-Motherboa … dZViewItem

i got it for £58.00 plus P&P. The specs are on the page

i want to add a graphics card as the onboard one is decent but i want something better. What would you recommend???

i have been looking at a few and which from this list would you say is the best for gaming(crysis,cod4 etc) and graphics designing. My budget is £50-£60. The mobo i have just bought does have a pci-e x16 slot. My OS is XP service pack 2

A question, if my computer mobo takes DDR2 ram does my graphics card also have to be DDR2 or can it be DDR3?
which is best, or is there something better for my budget???

well im not sure.... but personally id go with no 2.... i have a similar one (1GB 8600GT) and its not to bad for the price... and with my cooler its overclocked quite nicely... as for the DDR2/3 questions.... no ur motherboard does not have to be DDR3 to take DDR3 on the graphics asfaik its unrelated.

I'd say the 8600 is best. I've had a couple before and they are good cards. Can play COD4 fine but not on max settings.

Don't get any of those cards. The 1GB 8600 is DDR2, which is utter crap, and there is no way you're gonna use 1GB VRAM with a G84.

Go for this: http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop … dID=B91280
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Oh please no, don't get that.  I actually have it and it's a piece of junk.  Go with the DDR3 8600GT as Freezer said.

edit: Or hey, you know what, I can sell you my 8600GTS...

What the fuck.

8600GTS £1.5 more than 8600GT.

It is by far not a piece of junk compared...

Get an 8600GTS over that. The 8600GTS is actually an ok card, now that the drivers are fixed. Best buy you could make right now. Also, not even top-end cards can run Crysis on Medium, at some kind of resolution and AA.

tbh i don't know what to buy, all these cards seem similar. Might do a gamble with the 8600gts

The 8600GTS is the most powerful of all these cards. Just go and get it, already. DU gets over 5k in 3DMark with a single 8600GT, 10k with two SLI'd ones. The 8600GTS is about 30% faster, and that's (way) faster than any of the other cards you suggested. Listen to me, I don't have over 300 Karma from the tech section for no reason.

And from first hand experience I can say that 7900GT loses to 8600GT by a lot nowadays. 7900GS even more.

The 8600GTS I linked is the best bet I found for that price range. And I have some experience in finding parts
