I like them all!

heres a map for you, http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=9924
i'll put norfolk, simply because i live right next door to it.
Wow!!!
I'm glad I finally decided to check this thread. After posting it and not receiving any feedback for quite a while (it dropped to the third page in the forums) I decided to wait and address the issue again later when I had the time. I thought this post crashed and burned, but based on the feedback I got from you guys I guess this wasn't the case. Thanks!
Anyway, I've been busy working a contract job for the art assets of an upcoming PS3 launch title (I can't say what the game is because of an NDA I had to sign) so I haven't really had the time to get started on any of the levels yet or even play much BF2 for that matter.
However, it looks like I might have a full-time position at a game development company soon, so once I have that secured I'll have time again to devote to my personal level projects such as the BF2 levels. Based on the responses I've seen so far Spokane, Kashi, and Norfolk seem to be the most popular choices, but I'd still be willing to get more responses from anyone who wants to add their 2 cents worth. Personally, I'm leaning toward Spokane because I think it'd be a really fun infantry level with or without armor and helicopters (haven't quite decided yet on that matter).
Let me know what you guys think.

Bonneville, Spokane and the 3rd one whatever; I'd prefer something in close combat so maybe Kashi?
I'd say Norfolk and Bonneville are AWESOME!
I'd assume that on Norfolk, the MEC will use stolen USMC vehicles.
Nice work. I'd like more MEC vs PLA maps.

Spokane still looks fucking amazing...first urban map without that sand and dust in your boots...
map one
I hate to have to bump my own post, but I'd really like to get some more feedback from you guys.

Hong Kong(I know I stole the idea), a British vs Chinese map where the British want it back, this would be good for SF.
Heckler Kock map where Russians invade the factory to get some supplies and weapons.
I have more, but I will add them later.

The irony of guns, is that they can save lives.

I've got an idea for another possible map.... being from Tampa Bay, I think that having a map where either the PLA or MEC (MEC I would think) stage an assault on MacDill Air Force Base would be FREAKING AWESOME.
http://maps.google.com/?ll=27.842416,-8 … 57&t=k
It'd be a pretty big map. Maybe have an enemy Carrier out in Tampa Bay (they destroyed the Sunshine skyway bridge), which would be their airfield. Then for the USMC have trench systems on the waterfront, including mangroves, and have 3-4 control points on the map. The USMC airfield would be MacDill AFB itself, of course.

The layout of the geography for the area looks interesting. Maybe I'll try to create a quick prototype map layout of it like I did with the others. The only problem I see with the area as you've already mentioned is that the map would be pretty big. In fact, it looks like it would be huge. I'll check it out though.Spearhead wrote:

spokane and valdez would be my preferances
I'm glad you decided to add some suggestions.bs6749 wrote:
Alcatraz
NYC
Area 51
Hollywood
New Orleans (after hurricane) Or some bayou map
The Rocky Mountains (with snow, cabins, and tall pines)
Some heavily wooded area (Bastogne anyone)
Alcatraz would definitely be a fun map even if it doesn't seem as a plausible military target or battlefield. If I could get some good areial photos of the island I'll try to draw up a concept map for it.
I thought about NYC already, but even if the level was restricted to a half mile square area there would be far too many buildings for players to navigate around and through, and would actually play fairly slow on anything but the 64 player version. Maybe I'm wrong about this. The only way I think the game could be focussed around the CP's is if only 10-20% of the buildings were actually accessible to infantry. Maybe if the map only centered around Time Square or some other specific element of the city.
Area 51 seems like a likely target, but it's also fairly cliche. I might need some convincing to consider drawing up some concepts for this map.
I think Hollywood might have the same problem that NYC and other large cities have. They are big, densely populated with buildings, and would demand intense processing power to display the number of static meshes required to make the level seem believable. If I decided to do a big city, either NYC, Hollywood, or New Orleans, it would have to be focussed on a very specific and small area of the city to make the level playable. If the game could support 256 player maps then I don't think these issues would be a problem. The reason I chose Spokane (despite it being a city) is because it's downtown region is fairly small and combines synthetic and natural elements together.
The Rocky Mountains would be interesting. I think I would take the advice of another poster's idea to concentrate specifically on Cheyanne, Wyoming because of its strategic significance.
A wooded area would be cool. I'd simply have to find a geographic region that could be tied into a plausible scenario as far as strategic importance is concerned.

Great job dude!
The only problem I see about custom maps is.... they are not ranked and will not be unless EA includes them in an expansion pack or booster pack or map pack. I myself have made custom maps for games like Medal of Honor, and it was tough having ppl downloading them because they were on my clan's server rotation.
Imagine if the maps are not even ranked. I have thougth of making maps for bf2 too but after my bitter mapping experience for the Mohaa series, I know it can be a waste of time. I really wish you all the best about your maps, which look really great, specially spokane. I wonder why EA won't let us have custom maps ranked, maybe because punkbuster can detect original game content modified.
Anyway... what about an idea I posted on this thread, page 2, about an infantry map, a city with narrow streets, with no vehicles? I think many of us would love to have a 100% infantry map. Think about cities like Cairo, Shangai, Rome, Casablanca.... u know what I talk about, narrow streets, hideouts, sniping places, no room for vehicles..., except maybe a couple of jeeps?

Hope you dont mind, I've made one of my own. Maybe you could add it to the top?
Name: Venice
Description: Everyone has always wanted a purely infantry map, so here it is. I visited Venice last year (the main square) and the incredibly narrow allies punctuated by canals and small squares (and one very large square) would make for a great map.
Premise:
Located in a lagoon of the Northeastern coast of Italy, the ancient city of Venice is one of the greatest cultural cities in the world. Totally bereft of roads and brimming with narrow alleys and canals, it makes for a difficult battlefield. The MEC has landed here to strike a moral blow against Europe, taking and destroying their most prized cities. The EU's superior intelligence has paid off though, and the city has already been evacuated to the mainland. The MEC has landed early, suprising the EF, who are still in the process of deploying. The EF has already commandeered the various water taxis and powered boats in the area, while the MEC have a force of RIBs and jetski's to mvoe them around this narrow landscape. Victory will ultimately go to the side who can hold the easily-defensible San Marco Square, with its tall tower and sweeping fields of fire.

Well I decided to post the voting results thus far for the 5 map concepts that I proposed.
I decided to tally the votes two different ways. First I simply added up the votes for each map regardless of what order they were chosen in the list of suggestions you guys provided. This is what I consider the "unweighted vote."
Next I added up the votes based on the order that they were listed by each individual. For example, if someone voted in order of preference Spokane, Valdez, Kashi then I would give Spokane 3 points, Valdez 2 points, and Kashi 1 point. This is what I consider the "weighted vote."
For the Unweighted Vote the order of preferred maps are:
Spokane - 27 votes
Norfolk Naval Station - 13 votes
Bonneville Dam - 12 votes
Valdez - 8 votes
Kashi - 6 votes
For the Weighted Vote the order of preferred maps are:
Spokane - 79 points
Bonneville Dam - 28 points
Norfolk Naval Station - 26 points
Valdez - 13 points
Kashi - 12 points
While Bonneville Dam and Norfolk Naval Station were neck and neck, clearly, Spokane seems to be the most preferred map. So hopefully as soon as I'm able to finish the contract work I'm doing for the PS3 title I've been working on I should be able to start working on the map of Spokane. Actually, the first thing I need to do is see if Dice/EA would be willing to make the map an official map for ranked servers. I really want to make this map as authentic and plausible as possible so I'm hoping that something can be worked out so that it gets widely played. The only potential issue I might face is that this would be the first map to be fought on American soil.
I had some other interesting map suggestions as well including Alcatraz, Cheyenne, Venice, and MacDill AFB in Tampa Bay. Maybe when I complete Spokane and if it turns out to be popular I'll try a second round on a different map and add these to the list of map concepts. I had other general suggestions in addition to these such as Europe maps and large cities like New York City, Chicago, New Orleans, Hollywood, Los Angeles, etc. My only aversion to creating a large modern urban city map is that they are too huge for gameplay and would require hundreds of custom static meshes, which would have a significant performance impact for the average player's computer. The downtown region of Spokane is fortunately small and centralized enough to avoid most of these problems. As far as the Europe maps are concerned, I didn't attempt to propose any concepts for them because I believe the European theatre has already been visited many times in several war games including the Battlefield series. This doesn't mean that I couldn't improve upon the library of Europe battle maps that exist, I'd just prefer to do something a little more original if possible.
The other reason I'm leaning toward Spokane is a matter of practicality. Spokane is only a 5-6 hour drive away from where I currently live so I'll be able to do some in-person research on the area, which will hopefully make the map more accurate and detailed than if I was creating something purely from limited photo reference.
Thanks everyone for your input. The only other thing I think I have to decide when making the map is whether or not to have armor and helis. I'm pretty torn on this matter and probably won't know for sure what I'm going to do until I start working on it.

All I can say is WOW.
REALLY great work on this, just amazing.

Should make it hella easier for you to find maps.
Nice work and keep it up.

Need picture for Area 51?
http://maps.google.com/?ll=27.842416,-8 … 57&t=k there ya go you can also zoom in quite much But then would it be legal to make a map about area 51?
But I would go for
1: BONNEVILLE DAM
2: SPOKANE
3: NORFOLK NAVAL STATION
