That's pretty darn good.

CPU speed is only slightly slower than what you're replacing - you may notice that, or you may not.

Everything else looks good. Maybe not 'preferred' manufactures, imo, on the PSU and GPU, but the specs are all good for that price.
But with new "architecture" and shit, would it not be more optimized than my current (ie fucking ancient) CPU?

like how a 7 litre US engine can produce 300bhp, but a 2 litre Jap engine can produce 400bhp

Yes and no.

It's a subjective thing.

See early posts in this thread...

(Like a 2 litre Jap engine may produce 400bhp, but it still feels like a 2 litre engine)

Ahh right i get ya.

I think the 2mb ram (1mb increase) and the new GPU would still make me feel like things are moving at a pace though.

One of the things that annoys me most is getting FPS of like 30 (max) in BF2 and shit whenever i play

Maybe not quite that much I was thinking of my friends triple card set up at the time. You'll have at least 100-130 on all high settings with 8x anti aliasing.

but that 8800 whatever is seriously tempting, added to the fact it includes the mobo i need, a nice cpu, and a good PSU

Go for it!

Also make sure you have 2 gigs of ram for BF2 high settings.

What the hell are you on about? He's currently on a netburst CPU. Netburst is incredibly inefficient clock-per-clock. A 4GHz Presler is about as fast as an 1.6GHz Conroe with half the cache. That CPU is about twice as fast as his current one, if not more. Also, the Pentium D's have very inefficient scaling between the cores, they're essentially as fast as a 200MHz faster P4 with HT.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Read my earlier posts.

I'm not talking about the on-paper 'speed' - I'm talking about something that is subjective and tied intimately, in my personal experience, to the raw clock-rate - a 2.0GHz core2 just feels 'slower' than a 3.0GHz pentium D - I know it's not - it's the feel of it - even when I don't know the clock-rate I can still tell - I usually ask the question - "what's the cpu clock rate?" and when I hear the answer I know why, though it was clearly doing all this fancy shit, it just felt 'sluggish'.

THIS IS ACTUALLY GOING TO HAPPEN

School pulled through with the cheque haha, it came out of the blue this morning.

one snag, the Cheque is only for £180.

My systems specs are still the same (i still dont need RAM), and i still want the same sort of stuff.
