Close friend, mentor and personal friend of Barrack Obama. Here he is speaking at Barracks church.

If you just listen to the audio it sounds like a stand up comedy routine.
If you watch the video, it is disturbing. Barrack says he never heard Wright say anything racist in the twenty years he attended the church. But it appears race baiting and politics are what this ( tax exempt ) church seems to be all about.

Strangely the speaker is a white catholic priest. I guess they brought him in to give legitimacy to the gutter politics and racist diatribes being spewed from the pulpit.

I mean holy crow, the members of this church absolutely hate America and have a vengance mentality.

Looks like McCain will be our next president after all.

Funny, the people Barrack has been associated with actually make me wish Hillary wasn't geting steam-rolled out of the race. He may be a good speaker and all, but the views espoused in the church he has spent the majority of his life listening to are terrifying. Almost as terrifying as the thought of a continuation of the status quo McCain offers.

God help us all.

...and people wonder why I think religion is a disease of the mind.

For what it's worth, Pfleger was pretty funny in a twisted sort of way.

I guess it would be too much to ask for an atheist president since people insist that the candidates must have some kind of religious connection.

Obama is a great speaker, and he does an excellent job of appearing to be moderate, but yes, I can definitely see why some people doubt his motivations. I'll be voting for Obama mostly because I hate the status quo so much that I'm willing to risk having someone in power with a questionable religious background.

Still, I do find myself disagreeing with Obama about half of the time. Of course, I only agree with McCain about a quarter of the time.

Where's Mike Gravel when you need him?

...I don't get what the big issue is with this video. I think the idea of "giving up your 401(k)" and that is unreasonable, but other than that, what's the big deal? I'm not sure what you mean by "major" ... or whether you mean a big church or a big denomination.

But, it only takes a few of these "churches" to become highly political, or it only takes a few Robertsons/Falwells/Swindolls/Colesons/Dobsons and suddenly all of American Christianity is stereotyped as political.

But that characterization is just not the truth.*

There is a major segment of the American church that is not political, and even a stream of theology that teaches that furthering God's agenda through political means is the work of Satan (idealist view of Revelation, for example).

I wish Obama had not said that stuff about "not knowing" this goes on, because, I don't believe him. Falsehoods are not the way to deal with uncomfortable issues.
You can distance yourself from this without pretending ignorance; just acknowledge and repudiate the views as extreme, explain why, and many would let it slide. Even though I do also find it disturbing that he had anything to do with this creepy church, he probably was doing his perceived civic good by getting them grants for things like employment centers...it is clearly a poisonous atmosphere in terms of the rhetoric.

So far I have been kind of iffy on who I throw my vote to (pros and cons for both sides) and Obama has a couple of black marks due to associating with these people, and a bigger black mark that he pretended ignorance.

Very true. All I gotta say is... Obama's church is proof that religion can attract both right-wing nuts and left-wing ones. Obama's church is of the lesser noticed left wing variety.

I do go to a fairly large Baptist church but I'll get up and walk if I hear someone start in on politics ....... I think its disgraceful, heres a person that people hold very close and he can start to express his views about a canidate ( be good or bad ) and sway someones thoughts on that canidate .......... it should be the canidate and his/hers actions, motitvates, speechs, plans etc etc that convince a person to vote for him/her
