I never double space. I only learned about that in 10th grade, when my history teacher said we should do that. Naturally, I thought he was full of it and to this day I still single space. Which looks better?

I like cheese. It is tasty.

The first, obviously. Anyone who disagrees is a heretic.

I used to double space, but when i was typing a science essay a few years ago for the first 2 pages i only did single spaces, and on the 3rd page i was doing double spaces and realised, and instead of going through the whole thing i just erased the last paragraph and did it again in single spaces.

Dup. topic. But that was ages ago, so I'll let it slide.

I believe the tradition of using double spaces is a carryover from the days of typewriters with monospaced typefaces. Since I wasn't around when typewriters were being used, I use single spaces.

No, I don't. But it's out of laziness and habit. However it is grammatically correct to double space.

Hmm now that I think of it, I do double space after the end of a sentence when I need to fill up space in a paper

Yeah, I double space as well, not sure whether it's required for MLA format or not, but that's what we use for essays and such.  I take up more space by increasing the font a few sizes, hopefully the teacher has bad eyes and doesn't notice.

If single spacing is good enough for the MLA, it's good enough for me

My 3rd Grade "Single Space/Double Space" spelling lesson consisted of this:

You can put two spaces after a full stop if you want to, but you don't have to.
And I never heard another word about the subject until I came to this forum.

I'm so glad this topic came up; I'm writing a research paper right now and found out it has to be single-spaced So I'm taking every opportunity I can to lengthen this in any way

Ahahah, yeah I heard about that. And the periods are still the same size, too.
