That's why in F1, the pit crews are require to wear safety gear similar to what the drivers have.

He was not suppose to be there and with his experience he should know what can happen and to not put himself in a situation like that.
I'm also sure she apologized for what happen but not for being her fault. She doesn't need to announce it on TV when they have there own personal discussions in real life
