What is the "meta score" on Steam used for?
Nothing. It's just a rating score.
Meta score is an average score of reviews a game has been given, I think, anyway.Guy.Buddy.Friend wrote:

The Metascore is calculated through an average of the scores given to it by other critics, such as IGN.com and Gamespot.com.
http://metacritic.com is what it's derived from. Metacritic compiles reviews of movies, games and the like and averages them out.
It's there to give a quantitative value to people that like to be told what games they should purchase/play by other people.
