To clarify:

If you buy MEPC, install and run the game the game will register automatically and you are good to play.

After 5 days the next time you start the game the system will automatically try to register. If you are connected to the internet, it will occur without you even knowing it and reset the 10 days.

If you are not connected to the internet, you can keep playing for the next 5 days. As you start each day, the system will keep trying to validate. If it connects and validates, the "clock" is reset.

If the system cannot connect to the internet after the 10 days, you will not be able to play MEPC until you are connected to the internet. Once you reconnect to the internet and try to play, it will re-validate and you can play as normal for another period of 10 days as before.

So it is not "at 10 days and if the servers aren't working you're screwed". There is a large window (5days) where the system automatically tries to re-validate to prevent last minute problems
This seems to be yet another case of giving the real customers a hard time while the pirates laugh at them for it. There will be a crack within days, and people who bought the game will have to put up with that for the rest of their time playing, while the pirates once again get the hassle free version of the game.

When will they learn.

Glad I already have it on the 360.

Ridiculous. As you said, cracks will be out within days of release.

Just stupid.

They'll have to remove it like valve had to do aswell, I bet that within a couple of weeks they use another system or just have a more traditional protection...

They spend so much money on copy-right protection that doesn't even deter any real pirates.

One game wiped from my wish list. I'm not even interested if they say they're going to fix it. I've had enough.

This copy-right protection is BS.  For example, my friend had a pirated RS:Vegas and it worked perfectly.  I bought the game and sometimes it would take 10 tries just to get the game to work, "Please insert the real disc, not a backup".  FFS I had the real disc in!

try calling them and letting them know it sucks.  you will find out two things:

a) they dont give a fuck

b) see a

I know. But still, no one seems to blame the people actually causing it.

Mmm. Copy protection in general is a pain in the ass. Why wont people pay for their games? In general the ones pirated are the ones worth paying for...

Mass Effect was great though.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

Thought i'd just post this here. Not worth its own thread but i'd like to share it anyway. I found a fun way to get places you're not supposed to go in Mass Effect last time I was playing it. I wandered around on the ground of one of the huge hangars, and eventually fell down to infinity, whereupon the game froze. Sorry if all this is 'old' etc. Don't care . It was fun.

Here's me looking out at the level layout from underneath (this isn't where i fell into nothingness though).

Here's me next to the Normandy. The place you're supposed to walk on is on the left hand side.

Because 60 bucks for a game is xcrazyx mang.

I bought GTA though. I wont deny for shittier games (like eas new CnC that sucked) I pirated that and then deleted it10 minutes into the game.

They've reversed it btw. It's just an online activation now identical to Bioshocks.

Looks like the huge backlash got to them.

You're the reason games in Aus cost more. The ONLY reason games cost more down here is because people are willing to pay for them. When people are no longer willing to pay ludicrous prices for the games, then prices will drop.

Also, piracy is very useful for dropping the prices of games. Take thailand for example. Brand new games cost 20-30 dollars US because piracy is so rife. To get anyone to buy the game they have to charge fuck all for it.

Moral of the story: Buy your games from Thai stores and save lots of money. Zest is just one company that does this and they're very reliable.

Yeah but that's a regional solution, this wouldn't be a good fix for the EU , waiting 2-3 weeks for a game will not be worth the 20 euro's discount for the enthusiast...

Shipment is usually within 24 hours and travel time is quite short.

However this is getting slightly off topic. After the farce that was the Bioshock copy protection it's amazing to think that another company would go down the same road. As soon as i get the game i'll probably crack it so i don't need the dvd or have to worry about any of the crap that goes with it.
