What exactly is a recession...by definition, and in context with the yea and nay sayers?

I for one, believe our "economic condition and world standing" is worsening..and will at least until the beginning of 2009.

How about gas food prices sky rocketing while the dollars value goes to shit and more and more people join the illegal aliens in the underground economy?

Things are fucking peachy.

Two consecutive quarters of negative growth. Hasn't happened yet.

An overly simplistic definition at best.

The NBER does not define a recession in terms of two consecutive quarters of decline in real GDP.

A recession is a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more than a few months, normally visible in real GDP, real income, employment, industrial production, and wholesale-retail sales. A recession begins just after the economy reaches a peak of activity and ends as the economy reaches its trough. Between trough and peak, the economy is in an expansion. Expansion is the normal state of the economy; most recessions are brief and they have been rare in recent decades.

.

So its definition is debatable...welcome to monetary statistics (aka economics).

You're complaining about 'Gas' prices rising??  Don't make me laugh, Christ I would kill for your petrol prices

And on recession, no biggie, every nation goes through them every so often.  After seeing the 2008 UK budget which was released today I reckon we have one looming.
Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.

Well you're certainly on the brink of a crash among the biggest in history but I've gotta hand it to you, americans somehow manages to make things work again.

FED and the central banks around the world seems united and want to beat this monster with all means at their disposal.

Wouldn't be surprised if the only ones who make it out "alive" and avoiding a global economic meltdown are the ones who started it all. (US)
