I'm doing general first year, so we will see how it goes.
As far as a specific strand, I'm thinking Chemical, Materials or maybe Mech & Aerospace.

Actually, a pretty worthless organization unless you are a college professor who needs to publish ... the only reason I'm still a member is because the group life insurance through them is dirt cheap.Morpheus1229 wrote:

I've always had the impression that Aerospace is quite limited, and an unattractive career option ... Chemical or Mechanical engineering seemed to be more varied in career options and better career choices. And, materials engineering? Never heard of it, but that sounds like Mechanical Engineering.TimmmmaaaaH wrote:

Yeh I'm not uber srs about aerospace, it is just something that seems like it could be interesting, especially after looking at the massive repair hangars at the airport.OrangeHound wrote:

Or, I'm just getting old.
Yes, or biological engineers.Jenspm wrote:
I think there is a huge need for chem. engineers atm.
Not sure though.
What about software/computer engineer? I might want to be something along those lines, or a chemical engineer (preferably chem over bio).CameronPoe wrote:

You want guaranteed work: civil engineering or electrical engineering (power systems).
You want pretty much guaranteed work: chemical engineering.
You want to be unemployed: electronic engineering.
You want interesting work: Mechanical is the broadest branch that gives you a footstep into a vast array of different fields. I'd imagine chemical engineering is pretty interesting too if a little narrower in range. Civil probably gets repetitive after a while. Electronic engineering would be interesting but it's just too damn risky right now.
The problem with Software/computer engineering is that it is getting out sourced, unless you get connected with defense work. In the past, a software engineer would do both design and development -- good chunk of work. These days, you might see a systems engineer do the design work, and then contract out the software development to the lowest bidder, and the lowest bidder is some guy from India.Darkhelmet wrote:

That right there instantly reminded me of Deus Ex.TimmmmaaaaH wrote:
