You would in Texas.  Part of the citizen test here... You know, being able to do a double tap in <1s and carry it on your hip w/o it falling off.  It's a pain in the ass to check it at the saloon, though.



PS - Don't see many peeping toms down here now that the law was changed so we can shoot people through the walls/windows of our homes if we think they pose a threat... Seriously... Dude wacked a peeping tom at his house and another dude walked over and capped some robbers at his neighbors' house.  No charges (yet) thanks to the world's greatest "make my day" laws.

In-home is different.  That's what the Mossberg 500 is for.  I meant actually carry.

so can i carry this thing in my car without worry, or do i need a permit? this is my first gun, so i don't know much about the laws and shit. for now, she's staying in my room, but i'm not against keeping it in my car if that were to be legal.

and usp .45 > 1911 (even though i've shot neither)

too bad they're both ~$1000

Typically, you can carry it in your car, so long as the firearm and ammunition are separated (one in trunk or back, one in glove box).  That's where my .40 is.

but yeah, what's the point in carrying it if it's not loaded, or able to be quickly?

You don't require a concealed carry permit to transport the gun, say to a shooting range and back.  The stipulation though is that it be separated from the ammunition.

If you want to carry a loaded weapon you need to have a concealed carry permit.  You also need to notify any cop ever that is talking to you that you have it so that he doesn't get surprised by it.  You won't like a tense cop if he sees it poking out under your seat on a traffic stop.  I don't think it's a requirement, but if you don't like getting shot or beaten, it's generally a good idea to divulge firearms and other weapons before they find them on their own.

I've been thinking of getting a pistol lately, and ig thanks for showing your new prize! I might start lookin around. Would love to go to a shooting range and unload a few clips
