Get an 8800GT, and spend the rest on a CPU cooler and then overclock the CPU

It aint that. It's when you increase the frequency of a processor. Like from 1.8Ghz to 2.6 or something. It makes it run hotter and uses more power, but you get better performance.

I think id upgrade your processor before the video card. Been running a 7800 gtx and it plays everything. Until Direct X 10 really takes off there's no need for a dx10 card. The clock speed is a little low so i would either upgrade that or if you know what your doing (no offense) maybe get a heat sink and overclock it

choose me a good one
Just pick any as long as it has 512MB and a good offer. Like good warranty or a special package for the same price. eVGA is a really good brand, and I've heard BFG is good aswell. My Club 3D is running along nicely too.

to complicated.  rather keep it simple. i could get a friend to do it for me but i think its ok for just now.

Meh it will boost your performance pretty well. But if you let your friend do it, get a 8800GT and a decent heatsink you should be fine totally.

how do you that.  how can you check the temp of your computer?

Actually a video card makes more of a difference for games than a CPU. As long as it's got a decently high clock speed it should do well, you need to focus more on a video card and just overclock the CPU

Well to monitor temps you can use Speedfan, or coretemp and for graphical stuff RivaTuner/nTune (latter one is a pile of crap). But honestly if you didn't know what overclocking was before I'd read some guides before (if you intend to) doing it. It isn't hard but you can make things go pretty bad.

Wait Wait Wait. Getting a 8800 on a system like that sounds like an overkill to me. Please give us the model of your motherboard (Download EVEREST to see what it is, if you don't know)

is your OS VISTA?

Download Everst and give us some more information about your PC. What motherboard? and what CPU exactly?

I'd say overclock that CPU or buy an faster one with that configuration. The Core 2 dup E8200 is a good "bang for buck".

But assuming you overclocked your CPU to a decent speed:

if your OS is Vista buy:
8800GT
OCZ 4GB 667mhz kit (2 x 2GB)

£149.98 including VAT.

If you're on XP:
8800GT
2GB RAM is fine on XP

your CPU is the weakpoint though, an 7900GS isn't that bad. Maybe you should save up some more money and buy an better CPU.

I did some research, and I suppose the CPU is an E6300. If so, you need a proper cooler and then overclock it. That one should hit at least 2.4-2.5GHz easily (depending very much on your motherboard though) And after that it isn't much of a bottleneck anymore.

So, first get us some info from EVEREST and we'll pick something for you

Ya I'd say get a new GPU and a zalman cooler for your CPU as try to overclock it a bit.

Now, when i post in a tech topic, something usually blows up, BUT, i'll give it another go, i'll say, upgrade to one of those 8800 things, and then... NEW CASE!
